I have had Fios for more than a year now and it is by far the most reliable broadband connection I have experienced. Installer was professional and did a great job...he even arrived on time! Installer was very, very knowledgeable. Reused my Linksy WRT54G, changed to PPPoE and everyone in the house was up an running.
Always connected...all the time. I have a residential package 5 down and 2 up and whenever I test the speeds, I nail 5 down and just over 2 up consistently! If Fios is available in your area, get it...you will not be unhappy. All in all, I have had a great experience.
BTW, just got Fios TV installed two weeks ago. Although the HD pictures are a little softer than DirecTV, I love the overall performance of their TV offerings. Instantaneous On-Demand, dual tuner DVR, and ability to stream DVR content to other STBs throughout the house!
Good job Verizon, I hope rumors of you raising prices are untrue!

Just curious. What did tech support do, or not do, to you?

| Verizon is awful
Considering it has been four years and the service is still unavailable I am not going to get the service. Since the first roll out in 2003, Verizon has already raised it prices from $29.95 to $34.95 a month if you get all three services. Comcasts is still $33.00 a month. They should not be raising the prices for communities where the service remains unavailable. Otherwise there is no incentive to get the service. When Comcast first rolled out their internet service they froze the start up fee at $19.95 a month for one year for five years until the roll outs where complete. After four years Comcast had their service to over 90 % of the country. Verizon barely scratched the surface.
Also Verizon keeps telling people that their connection is five times faster than cable from their facility to the subscribers house. This is a misleading. The actual speed of depends on the connection between Verizon servers and web. This, from what I was told, is not much more than cable simply because the connections to the web are used by everyone and this slows it down.
Even though I am a 20 year subscriber to Comcast, they still gave me the $33.00 a month for a year for all three services when I signed up for their digital phone service.
Why should I get a service that is almost $2.00 a month more and only slightly faster than cable from the server to the web? And in addition its been four years and the service still remains unavailable to most of the country.
When the service finally becomes available Im going to tell them to take a hike.

| If the tone of my previous email seemed angry, its because I had just gotten off the phone with one of Verizon's sales people. He refused to let me speak to technical support concerning my technical questions. He had an attitude. I hope I didn't offend anyone.
My information came from a discussion I had with my friend who is currently on vacation until January 3. He is general council at Comcast. When he gets back, I will ask him if he has any information I can show all of you.
I signed up for FiOS even though I still don't know if its the best deal. It seems to me that the actual speed depends the amount of traffic coming from the main pipe (the Web). Everyone uses the main pipe (dialup, dsl, cable etc). So when the traffic enters Verizon's main pipe the speed is greatly reduced. Considering all the cabling (Coax, telephone lines and satelite) in the main pipe, I don't see this changing any time soon.
Also, I spoke to Verizon's sales people twice since and they were very nice and helpful in answering my questions.

| Ok.. I'm not one to jump in and give my 2 cents. But I just have to speak about the time it takes for install. When cable deployed their Internet and more recently their phone service. They only had to install equipment at their offices and at certain points in the network. They did not have to run new wire to every individuals house. If you remember the early days of cable.. as they initially deployed their TV service it took YEARS to get to every house.. and even still to this day their are areas without cable in the united states. And you are VERY miss led about speeds. Cable shares its band with with every single one of your neighbors. If all your neighbors have internet and all download a move at the same time.. well you will all be crawling. Verizons Bandwidth sharing is in clusters... you have an individual line to your local hub in the neighborhood but only a small amount of homes are on the same fiber from that hub to the Office. The bandwidth is much more constant then with cable. Please.. Research before making claims about things. | |

| Verizon Fios Hype While some of you out there are happy with the 39.99 a month for the Verizon Fios service but forget to mention THE home phone Verizon require you to have in order for them to provide Fios to your home. So figure speaking, you're paying about 60 bucks+tax a month on the lower end. Well, that's not bad for 5Meg/2Meg of up/down speed + a home phone. It's just that WHY must you have a home phone in order to get Fios ? Personally, I don't have a home phone, I don't want one but I must have a home phone with Verizon to get Fios.
What's the catch, Verizon ? Marketing tactic of control which area a provider in charge ? We as consumer must Beware these behavior from these giant so call provider. Don't jump to conclusion that: Hey, I got 5Meg for download speed and that's great. The news can be worse, just look at Time Warner/RoadRunner in Southern Cali.
