FiOS internet became available a few weeks ago via an MDU servicing my 600+ unit apartment building in center city Philadelphia. I placed my order for service through the Verizon FiOS www site, and was schedule for the install the next day. I got a confirmation email for the 15/2 service tier at $49.99 /month for 12 months. verizon also was running a special in January , and gave a $100 American Express Card as an incentive if after three months of service.
The Installer called 1/2 hour before his arrival time and said he was on his way, and he arrived ontime at 9AM.
the only point of concern was the Verizon online www site doesn't have info on the MDU , and I wasn't sure how the install would go. (I first thought he would have to string the fiber optic cable to my unit , but I was wrong as the installer informed me of the MDU and ONT in my building's telephone room.. approx 200 feet over existing copper wire to my apartment.)
The install took approximately 2 hours, and I was online with verizon, and off comcast
I received a Actiontec wireless router and a ZyXel VDSL modem. ( I would have liked the units housed in a smaller box due to space constraint on my desk, but it isn't a big deal).
Now one week on the service and I am getting consistent downloads of 14.1 Mbps / uploads of 1.6 Mbps
On FiOS Internet and FiOS Phone, and I am very pleased. I can't wait for the FiOS TV to be offered

@comcast.net | what apartment building? Would you mind mentioning the name of your apartment building?
My wife and I recently signed a lease at Academy house on 15ht and Locust wondering if FIOS is available there

@epa.gov | Re: what apartment building? Building is 1420 Locust Academy House (condos)
Call verizon Fios customer service and ask if 1500 Locust has FiOS, I suspect most likely it is available at that location less than 1/2 block away

| oh I am sorry I re-read your post ... at first I thought you were at 1500 Locust, but now see you at at Academy House, welcome to Academy House (AH), .
yes, Academy House (1420 Locust) is on FiOS all the residents received a mailing from Verizon last Saturday indicating FiOS is available.

| Re: ZyXel Modem ZyXel VDSL model was installed by Verizon tech. model
Prestige 861 Series DMT 3/4/5-band, ATM-based VDSL Modem/Gateway
came in the box with Micro filters..
while one could install the modem and router without a tech, the hook-up to the MDU / optical terminal network and connecting FiOS phone would have to be done by the Verizon installer. Did not use the microfilters in the setup though since I already had indoor Westell Wall-Mount POTS / DSL Splitter from a previous install

@epa.gov
| Re: ZyXel Modem The coax connection is on the Actiontec Router not the VDSL modem. FiOS TV will be available in the City of Philadelphia when Verizon is awarded a cable franchise via City Council vote. That may take awhile to pass in council.
what the Tech did tell me is that all the new condos being constructed have fiber to the condo units, and in the older buildings the MDU is being used

| Power to ONT & Voice availability Vikingsquirrel, if you're still around obviously, how has your uptime been with regards to voice service? Have you had any power outages, on either side since service installation? Also, when you ordered online where did you order from? The FiOS homepage »www.verizon.net/fios or »www.verizonfios.com/ or the convoluded way(this is the only method we qualify, for now, in Port Richmond 19134, 215-739); »www.verizon.com Residential > enter ZIP > Freedom "Calling Packages" or "Calling Features" > "View All Products" in Resources column > "Verizon FiOS Internet Service" link > Add to cart > Proceed to checkout, etc.
I'm trying to cleanup the account, and am waiting for the Double Freedom to kick in, and hopefully we'll be able to keep the $70 a month for FiOS too, after the Double Freedom has cleared the FiOS order is submitted and processed, and our activation date comes and passes with a successful installation.
Thanks for the reply, Alan
