After a very long wait I was excited when FiOS finally became available in my remote neighborhood just north of Lake Elsinore (served from Lake Elsinore).

Pre-Sales Information (4): Was okay, got a door tag stating FiOS was available and called to find it wasn't quite ready. Called back the following week and I guess the database was updated to show it was available.

Install Co-ordination (1): Like a few other people, having the drop and install done separately can lead to problems. My drop installer was a no show so when the box installer came it wasn't ready. I had to start over but Verizon was good about it. The drop was done in 3 days and the box installer was there a few days after. It took about 3 hours to install everything and I was up and running (having lost 3 days work in the process). The service was up and worked awesome.

Connection Reliability (2): The first 6 or 7 months of service were flawless and I was so glad to be rid of horrid Comcrap. I ALWAYS got very close to my advertised speed of 15/2, typically 14.5Mb down and 1.7-1.8Mb up. Latency was also very low and rock solid. However starting about a month ago, for some reason our entire neighborhood of about 2300 homes is having severe problems with packet loss and latency that isn't affecting other areas served by Elsinore. It also isn't affecting Verizon's DSL customers but it is affecting all of my neighbors who have FiOS. Calls to Verizon tech support are pointless. Truck rolls (and the associated day lost off work) simply confirm that the problem isn't me. Talking to neighbors shows that the entire development is having problems (but again, not DSL subs) so it must be some part of the FiOS infrastructure between here and the CO 13 miles away. In any event, tech support agents are sympathetic but have been able to do nothing to get the problems fixed or even provide an ETA as to when it may. Thus stalled connections and downtime are common, and very frustrating especially after having gotten used to 15Mb speed.

After a month since the problem got really bad it has gotten to the point I have no choice but to cancel. I use VPN to work with my office and have to have a reliable connection. Luckily I had read the Verizon FiOS forum before calling for installation so I was able to keep my copper on a 2nd phone line which will become my primary line when the Verizon equipment is removed.

Tech Support (3): This is mixed because every agent wanted to help, but didn't have the power to help. So calls were pointless in getting a problem this big fixed.

Value (2): I am finding little value in a service that isn't functioning properly and am cancelling. But again, to Verizon's credit, I'm paying no cancellation fee and the retention agent I spoke to was apologetic regarding my experience. A nice gesture in that while this experience was negative, my opinion of Verizon is still very favorable and I will continue to use them for POTS service and probably DSL (depending on how Time Warner, formerly Comcrap does).

Overall I would still recommend FiOS because according to DSLR reviews the problems I'm having are extraordinarily rare. Very few people have problems with FiOS and I certainly wouldn't steer people away from the service (so long as they aren't my neighbors). My recommendation is as with any service, ask a neighbor who already has it how they like it. Quality of service even a mile away can differ greatly from what you would see so a general review either good or bad will rarely be a guaranty of what you will get.

    Good review

Thanks for taking the time to write a thorough review, even when you are disappointed in the service. Most folks, it seems lately, would write a rant about the one specific problem they had and pan the entire service. Perhaps in the future, the problem you face will be cleared up and assuming the hardware is still in place, you could go back to FiOS if you so desire.

    Never ceases to amaze me...

Honestly, what is tech support supposed to do. They click a mouse to inform issues. They have no power to fix an entire network, give them a break. ONly Verizon's field techs, can do anything about that.

Never ceases to amaze me...GUYS WHO DON'T READ THE REVIEWS!

What never ceases to amaze me are people who comment on things they don't bother to read first.

Had you bothered to actually read the review you would have read...

You really should READ reviews before commenting on them.

I think I live in the same area, and I am slated for install

    Hey,
I think I live in the same area, off of Indian Truck Trail. I just ordered the service this last week, and they are installing it tomorrow.

If you want, Ill let you know how the service is. Hopefully I get 15/2.

Ive been looking forward to FIOS for a long time.

Verizon Fios Triple rip off in NJ

My first bill was supposed to be 141+tax w/95 triple play, 16 HBO, 2 extra std boxes and 20 activation.

Instead it was 449! They charged for installing 3 outlets which they did NOT do (used existing), AND itemized internet, phone and TV, so I didn't get the triple play rate.

Run very far away from these crooks! Comcast was much better in billing!
