cable buried prior to install. on time for install. 4.5 hours for install. tech didn't finish laptop install due to allergies. took numerous phone calls to finish. still not right on laptop but way too many calls to texas resulted in no help. support is sad. just wanted someone that knows what they are doing to look at laptop. overall the speed and clean install were very good. more to say but don't know how to put it here. have 15/2 pkg. have no idea what static ip, dynamic ip or pppoe means so no comment there. sorry about the lack of tech speak. frank. no outages since install. have added tv and phone since last posting. very pleased with performance of the package. 09-23-08. have all three services and couldn't be any happier. frank

just an update. no problems with billing or any of the services at this writing. have not upgraded any of the services. still have sd tvs and 15-2 internet. free speed upgrade would be nice though. only negative is possible sale to Frontier. didn't see that coming. all in all are very happy customers. frank

    Laptop install?

I don't think you need to install anything in the laptop to use FIOS.

    Your lucky...

You shouldnt need to set up any settings to use with your laptop. Unless you asked for a static ip, your computer should be automatically setup up for dhcp. I can also understand why the tech had to leave if he was allergic to cat hair. Ichy/watering eyes, snot pouring out of your nose, etc. Its really unpleasant. Anyways, be grateful that you have FiOS. There are alot of us that would kill to have it as an option. Enjoy the speeds!

    Allergies are serious

The guy started have a re-action to cat hair. You make it seem like everyone can stand cat hair. I can't be around cigarette smoke without choking. Cut him some slack, he may be out sick with rashes, other problems from exposure. To be honest your lucky he did it. He could have left rather than expose himself.

probably wouldn't have had the problems i've had if someone else would have done or finished the install.

Have to side with the installer.

There is no reason the guy should have needed to access your laptop. If you needed help with anything that he could have done, you could do it yourself, on the phone, with a tech support person. Allergies are serious and your complaint is invalid.

Hold a moment - is this a wireless laptop? Why couldn't he configure from outside? Not wireless? Run a 25' Cat5 cable thru a window. Laptops are portable. I understand cat allergies, but I have to side with the OP...he deserves a full install, which includes the installer verifying that all services are up and running. Maybe that needs to be a question on the install script: "Do you have any pets in your home?"

tks for the reply. verizon was aware we have cats when we ordered service. the other replies were more on the order of be satisfied with a less than complete install due to employee having allergy problems. felt sorry for young man. just an unfortunate situation. frank.

Re: Have to side with the installer.

There seem to be three factions in the FiOS camp. One believes that FiOS is the be-all, end-all of broadband existence, and that you should accept whatever Verizon dishes out without questions and consider yourself lucky to get it. Then there are the malcontents - Comcast, Cox or BrightHouse captives who can't get FiOS, or those who have a grudge against Verizon who wouldn't say anything nice if you paid them. I put myself in another group, those who appreciate the high technology associated with FiOS, love the speed and clear TV/Phone signals, but also are realists about the company delivering those services. Verizon isn't perfect; it's a big company with thousands and thousands of employees trying to drag their telecom service provider mentality into the broadband age while still making enough money to avoid being bought by AT&T as it reassembles itself. FiOS is new territory, so there will be issues. The Disciples don't see them; the Bashers relish in them; the Realists accept them as a cost of being early adopters and press on. Welcome to reality.

    yup.

    this guy

    Allergies?

Should have put the cat outside, opened the windows, sprayed Febreeze and offered tissues.... Overall, your laptop (wireless i assume) should have automatically detected the Actiontec router... Anyway, hope ur issues get worked out

    Re: Allergies?

morning. actually have 4 inside cats. put them in spare bedroom. windows were open. tried to convince him to call off install and send someone else over at a later time. he refused and hung in there. thought it was foolish on his part but his choice. tv and phone service had a guy with cats on install so no problem. don't run wireless but everything has been great. frank.
