It was with a heavy heart that I left RCN, who have been very good to me over the years, at least the network technical folks have. But I got sick of the whole "phone up for another promo hoopla", and when Verizon offered 20/5 service for a 29.95 promo, with $100 Best Buy card it was all I could do to stop chewing their arm off. They set me a date 2 days after I called, which given they did the outside line drop the day after the call, was pretty quick
The install went easily and painlessly, though they screwed up initially and provisioned me for 20/2, not 20/5. It took a little while, but at least the VZ guys on the phone are willing to listen to a network engineer customer who knows how to speedtest, and they don't repeat the whole "unplug your cable modem" script ad nauseum.
The speed truly is awesome - on any number of speedtests I can hit close to my provisioned speed. I haven't got the bad end of VZ's billing dept, but I'm hoping as long as I avoid their phone service, things should be OK.
