I had a straightforward installation of FiOS for Internet; just Internet. No phone, no TV. I had read up on what they would do and I knew where I wanted the ONT and the battery backup installed. I fished a string from the basement to the second floor where my main computer sits and had the areas cleared so the installer could do his work. We have overhead wiring, so there was no disturbing the landscape. Set up my installation appointment online and the installation went through without a glitch.
It is rather difficult to comment about a service that never fails. The FiOS is always on, always working, and I have never had the need to call tech support since it was installed about a year ago. The billing is accurate and charged to my credit card at the same time every month.
We have VoIP, and it works flawlessly with FiOS (5M/2M). The only surprise I had was learning that the battery backup only backs up the Internet for five minutes in case of a power outage. The rest of the 8 hours one gets out of the battery (4 hours with FiOS TV) is to back up the phone (landline) service. Since we are on VoIP, our home phones die in five minutes. So I put my own battery backup on the battery backup for the FiOS and now I get three hours before the FiOS battery backup 'knows' the power is out. We live in an area where power outages have become all too frequent (seems like every time it rains) and I want the opportunity to holler at PEPCO, demanding to know when power will be restored. (Of course, we have cellphones and are not totally dependent on power for phone service.)
It is interesting to note that when power is restored after a long outage, FiOS comes right back up and by the time the computer gets fired up, FiOS is live and operational without any fiddling on this end.
