I was with Optimum Online for several years before FIOS became available. The only other option was 768K DSL. The decision to switch to FIOS was easy due to the constant Optimum Online price increases and the attitude of Cablevision's sales and support personnel.
I started with the 15/2 package at $29.95 per month under a 1 year contract and, when the triple play was offered, was upgraded to the 20/5 service automatically. The upgraded speed was implemented immediately after placing my triple-play order even though the TV and phone installation was scheduled for a later date.
The original ordering process was handled by a knowledgeable technician that was going door-to-door. He answered all my questions and scheduled an install immediately. The installer arrived and performed as promised.
The entire experience was a positive one. Performance, stability and availability have been rock-solid. Although I hesitate to say it based on comments in the Verizon forum, billing for the initial order and the upgrade to the triple-play has been accurate.
Overall, my experience with Verizon has been far superior to my Cablevision experience. I'm glad I made the change and haven't looked back.
