    My Other Reviews·Optimum Online
I had ordered Verizon FIOS originally on October 29th, with an original install set for November 20th... On November 15th, was postponed to December 3rd 2007. A minor setback, but understandable considering that it just became available in this area.

I have the 20mbps down / 5mbps up package, TV service and standard phone service through Verizon's triple play deal. $138/month total for all three services, contract two years, plus lower amount for the first few months and a free 19" LCD HDTV.

Installer arrived at 9:30 AM, began by installing the ONT on the side of the house and the Battery Backup Unit and Power Supply in the basement. Another tech came and ran the fiber from the box on the pole to the side of my house at the same time. The tech allowed me to install the router myself, no software was installed on my PCs. I found the Actiontec router to be much bigger than my old Linksys and Netgear routers, but the wireless signal was much stronger so I am now considering keeping it as my main router rather than converting to ethernet and using my own router, being that the tech used the existing coax network for an easy MoCa install (internet/tv over coax). After getting the internet setup and telephone ported over to FIOS, he setup the set-top boxes for the televisions and even gave me an extra HDMI cable for a second future HDTV. Total install time was approximately 6 1/2 hours, but the installer did "milk" it (he was on overtime)... Overall the install went very well, and it is a very clean setup.

A good amount of bandwidth (20mbps/5mbps), crystal clear TV service (much better SD/HD than the cable company) and the phone service is now clearer than copper... Verizon FIOS is a clear winner. If you can get it, get it... It's an amazing deal and the future of last mile delivery of digital services to the home.

I have been waiting for Verizon FIOS since before it was publicly announced, so I was very excited when it became available, and ordered it right away. I commonly see a dozen or more Verizon trucks for every cable company truck in the area, which leads me to believe that the tech's comments about them not being able to keep up with the install demand are true.

Once again, if it is available, GET IT... It's the future of broadband in this country... Verizon is driving competition, the cable companies can't keep up. In the end, the subscribers benefit.
