Signed up for business service in July 2007 after about 5-6 months of usage, I give FIOS a solid thumbs up. Installed 1 dedicated IP 15/2 service, Motorola ONT. Later upgraded to 5 dedicated IP's and now paying $119.99 per month. Residential phone service stayed on copper until I later moved to for Verizon's VoiceWing VOIP $29 including taxes.

I am really residential and my hobby is this stuff. I wanted a dedicated IP and after reading the forums, I got the good advice, if you want a dedicated IP, sign up for a business account, as residential does not offer dedicated IP's. If you try to change it would be a nightmare. I have found that Verizon business and residential could easily be located on two different planets, as the two shall never meet, they never talk, separate everything.

My neighbor signed up for residential Verizon and the install done in less than two weeks, I signed up at the same time and business took 6+. Tech showed up at 5:00 on the scheduled day. (dispatch said the tech would arrive anytime between 9-5) Install went quick, all the tech had to do is mount the ONT, plug in the fiber and connect the wires. I pre wired and labeled what to connect. Mounted the battery backup in the basement, ONT outside. The tech made the call and boom, green lights, I setup the IP's in the router and service was up. Took about 45 min all in. Smooth install.

When I later upgraded from 1 to 5 dedicated IP's, Verizon had difficulties. They said it would get done same day, it took weeks. Getting anyone on the phone for support was difficult and took hours. One thing that make it difficult is I do not have a phone number attached to the service, so that take time each call to sort out. Anyhow about 3 weeks later, my service went dark, I suspected they must have turned up my new IP addresses. Gave them a call, after a few hours of getting the bang around, I ended up with the right technician who told me what my new IP's were. The only negative with Verizon (which is a big one), if you need to call them, be prepared to spend a lot of time on hold, they get the problem solved, but lots of hold time and bang around to different people.

I have to agree with you about VFios. I had it installed in October and it went very smoothly. Got all three, FIOSTV, Internet and house phone. I've had VDSL since Jan 2000 and have had very rare problems with them. Their billing can be hard to deal with at times. They always fix it, but it can be a pain. Today, I made some changes when i called about the amount of the bill and wound up paying less money and my Internet was ramped up to 15/2. All I lost on th phone was 3way calling and speed dial. Never use them anyhow. BTW, I'm in University Park, Md
