I upgraded from slow 768k DSL to FiOS 20/5. In my previous home, I had TWC Road Runner. My FiOS installation went off without a problem. The installer did an excellent, clean job. My first few days I had some issues. Speeds would slow to a crawl, and wireless connections would stop working. The first problem must have been a network problem because it corrected itself. The wireless problem would be corrected if I reboot the router. Since then, I've upgraded my wireless network with D-Link hi-gain antennas, and it has improved my wireless problems greatly. I've only had to reboot the router 1 time this week. It seems like the Actiontec only works well with a very strong signal. All in all, I'm happy with FiOS. I get the advertised speed, and most of the kinks have been worked out.

Well it's official. Verzion is getting rid of the alt. newsgroups. Like we don't pay enough. Now we have to pay for a 3rd party news server.

    Not VZ's fault

Alot of people dont like that the news groups are going away. But they were only something VZ offered, they are not required. Same thing with web space, and email. Not trying to take there side in this, but I have seen to many people bashing when soemthing goes away that they were not even paying for. Your paying for the connection, not the extra's

Oh. So we're not paying for "services", we're only paying for "connections." That's a good one. You should sell that line to Verizon.

Correct. your paying for the connection. VZ, or Comcast or anyone else doesnt have to offer you news groups, web space or even email for that matter.

    Re: Not VZ's fault

Correct. Technically, they don't don't have to. But the fact is, if they stopped offering email, web access, web space, etc, nobody would be paying for their "connection". Are you going to spend $40+ a month for Verizon's "connection", when someone else's "connection" offers you services that you have to pay extra for with Verizon. In reality, nobody is paying for just a connection.
