(ratings match consensus)

I have the 50/20 package, and it was installed during the first week of April. The only reason why I did not give a 5 for connection reliability is because I experienced a 3 day period where the connection was offline only a few days after the service was installed.

Since then, however, I have had no down time in the service.

The installation coordination, on the other hand, was not so good. Three people were sent to install FIOS and the phone service when only one person was required. This caused some issues in terms of getting my billing done properly. But again, once this was resolved there were no more issues.

Technical support has unfortunately not been up to the level that I have expected. I still cannot get a good answer as to why the wireless speeds with the Actiontec router are piss poor, but on other issues Verizon has been quite good. Verizon's technical support still cannot match that of Speakeasy, which was my former ISP, but they are definitely getting better.

The value for the money is without measure, and the pre-sales information was absolutely top notch.

I run Bittorrent, Skype, video streams from two AppleTVs and a PS3, and the connection doesn't miss a beat.

The only big time complaint I have about Verizon FIOS at this point is that TV service is not available yet. As soon as it is, I'm switching from Timewarner Cable.

In short, if FIOS is available, get it.

    **UPDATE** - 8/29/2008

FIOS TV is now available at my location in Brooklyn, NY in Fort Greene. I'm putting my order through as soon as Verizon opens for business today.

    YES!!!

    **UPDATE** - 3/7/2009

Verizon's online system is really messed up. Even though it says on some days that I have FIOS TV available in my building, other days it says it's not available.

    Sigh.

FIOS TV is now available in my building. Verizon wasn't kidding when they said end of August/early September.

Advertising Hype for FIOS will lead you to aggrevation

The speeds are great and the TV quality is also great - but when you have a problem with billing or tech support it will be a deal breaker for you as it was with me. They are the worst in history! You will waste countless hours with them on the phone and hoe and pray they resolve it the first time - but your hopes and prayer will go unanswered like a pagan!!! They treat you like a pagan also - or worse. They have a good marketing department and they make you think this will be a good change for you. If they had decent customer care, it would be awesome!!! But Verizon is plagued with the phone company mentality and they will never get it right!

Actually, to Verizon's credit, their technical support is still light-year's ahead of Time Warner Cable.

That's one of the reasons I left Road Runner back in 2003 and never looked back.

Btw, here's my review of Road Runner before I left their service behind: »/comment/43868

Similar problems have been expressed here: »consumerist.com/5035954/time-war···warcraft

I also haven't had any trouble with Verizon billing once the initial snafu was taken care of.

I have had repeated problems with Time Warner cable, however, as they repeatedly switched my billing with another condo on my floor. It took several months to resolve the issue.
