This is an update. I've had FIOS here for about 5 years and I decided to get a 2nd FIOS install to separate business from home. After a few false starts. 2 missed install dates the installer was out today. Getting a 2nd FIOS residential line isn't that easy but they did it. Verizon had to create a 2nd address at the house then run a new fibre line from the main box down the street thru the underground conduit to the side of the house. I opted for the 50/30 Quantum double play. TV/Internet.
speed test are about 55Mbps down 43Mbps up. Installer was great, provisioned the ONT via ethernet like i requested and brought out one of their newest Gen3 Rev I routers.
I had serious misgivings at first. They would set an appt date and no one showed twice!. seems getting a second FIOS install is not as easy as they had hoped either. after the 1st missed appointment date with no notification. I was on the phone with numerous departments and finally got a 3rd level supervisor that lit a fire under someones behind, next morning 4 large trucks were out pulling a new line thru the neighborhood up to the buried vault 3 doors down. got an email stating a new install date. no one showed up again. back on the phone with this same 3rd level supervisor.. dang he was pissed!! anyway they forgot to run the line up to the side of the house. that was done 2 days later then a 3rd appointment date. this time at 8am the installer called saying he would be there at 4PM (install window was 8-5).
this was great, I didn't have to sit around all day waiting and wondering if and when they would arrive. installer was in and out in about an hours time.
Installer did a very clean job. mounted the second BBU and ONT right next to the first and did a very clean job of it to. even mounted the new router under the 1st I had mounted several years ago. Installer replaced all the splitters because I mentioned opening the guide and hitting channel i wanted would have a good 30 second to a minute delay before the box would switch. said this is a common problem they have been seeing with the old splitters used numerous years ago.
fixed that problem!
Other then not being notified no one was coming twice everything has gone extremely well. We have two options here Time Warner Cable or Verizon FIOS.. kind of a no brainer. Have had very reliable service the last 5 years with no down time that was Verizons fault.
all brand new equipment today for the "dad line".. ONT/BBU/Router/DVR. lovin this new DVR two.. had one of the old old ones that should be in a museum now. 4X the storage space, a full screen menu now.. and it switches channels without a 1 minute delay. I'm most impressed by the professionalism shown by the installer that was here. very knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous.
Yep I'm a happy dad now.
