Everything has been within normal range for installation and operation except for the phone. The volume is too low, about half of other phone services, there is a low background hiss, and some, on the other end, have said my voice is "choppy". Nothing from my original Comcast phone service was changed - Verizon attached their phone service to previous installed service lines with no other actions.
It's kind of strange that Comcast - a cable company, had the best phone service I've ever had and Verizon, a phone company, has the best TV/Internet service I've had.
Anyone else experience poor call quality with Verizon FiOS?
6 Oct 2008: Called customer service 3 Oct and reported difficulty. CS recommended making calls from the jack on the ONT, over the weekend, on a corded phone to determine if the inside wiring was the cause good advice. He said he'd call me on Monday (today) and submit a Ticket if no improvement. No improvement and no call. Called CS again and was told I needed a technician to make a check at location - that's not what the first CS recommended - he said adjustments could be made without a truck roll. Also told I could be charged - if inside wiring was cause and needed repair but only if they did the repair. I ask for the written charge policy to be faxed or given an Internet link - told that couldn't be done. No useful information ever, just bla, bla, bla on the phone and overcharged bills. Ive learned that it doesnt pay to threaten to cancel which I still may, because Ive had Time Warner, Comcast and now Verizon FiOS, in different states, and they are essentially the same (for customer service) - poor service and constant overbilling.
7 Oct 08: Appointment was for today 1-5pm, tech comes at 9:40am when Im not here. Call Verizon, they change their story and tell me appointment was to be between 8am 5pm. Thats wrong; its either a sinister plot or incompetence. In the three appointments Ive had with Verizon they have never showed at the time agreed for the appointment. This customer service rep tells me there are no service charges within 30 days of install. Thats not what other CS reps have said.
8 Oct 08: Tech calls to determine if Im home so he can come earlier than the appointment no problem. Makes some quick checks and says everything is within spec. No change in call quality volume remains too low and a low-level background hiss. Never had these issues with previous phone service Comcast.
19 Oct 08: Error message on my alarm system. Verizon installer disabled alarm, didn't tell me, and left it that way.
25 Oct 08: Received bill seems to be about right amount but nearly impossible to decipher -12 pages of an accounting puzzle. Call quality remains poor.
At 8 Oct service visit tech instructs me to call his supervisor if no improvement. I call supervisor and tech, get voice mail and no call back. File complaint with BBB.
20 Nov 08 Verizon calls and tells me an unannounced service visit was made this morning - no prior call/arrangement was made by Verizon - I wasn't there.
It's getting kind of boring reporting the ongoing Verizon anti-consumer actions - their final response to the BBB complaint is that they'll look into it, but no resolution - what I've come to expect - nothing.
April 2009 - Verizon installed new ONT to stop interference with garage door opener, ONT now on different frequency. Even though the tech wasn't at my place for my phone low volume problem he had the first rational explanation I've heard: There are three different ONTs: Tellabs - which is the one I have is known for low volume problems - no good. ACATELL - German made - the best - never a problem. Motorola - unknown.

| Verizon FIOS only compatible with certain phones Come on..... That is one crock of crap. I have Fios with comcast and I didn't have to upgrade my old phones. I did find the wiring on my house had to be fixed because the guys that came out didn't use clean connections. I'm hoping Verizon is good, quick and clean (plus better pricing) so I can CAN comcast. I'm so tired of monthly rate increases, lousy customer service, online tv guides that are incorrect and lags in their internet connections. -- "When you're wireless, you're not someones puppet on a string". »www.bubbajames.com | |
