After Optonline (Cablevision) refused to lower the price on internet ( $50 /month for 15/2 Mbps) I decided to switch to FIOS.
Price for FIOS is now 43$/month for 10/2 Mbs; a 75$ signup bonus should bring costs down to an average of 37$/month. I also got a separate 100$ bonus off a computer when signing up for this deal so I am quite happy with the deal.
Installation was on time. They actually have fiber down to the central room in my apartment building and VDSL through the phone lines to my apt (I received a VDSL router which is connected to the phone line).
Their Actiontec wireless router sucks as expected. I had major difficulties switching from their router to my own router and their tech support was not helpfull. Eventually I was able to overcome the problem after spending nearly 10 hours and finally getting an IP address in my router.
Since then I am quite happy with FIOS though i dread the billing issues that are a recurrent complaint with Verizon. Hope not to have to deal with their CS and especially not their billing dept.
So far no outages in over a week... I am curious as to how reliable FIOS is compared to cable (Cablevision was reliable in the past few years except for a few random outages in the past 3 months).
I am still using Cablevision basic cable package (11$) which i barely use during the year. And I use another VOIP company for unlimited in-state calling for another 15$/month.

If you have to deal with verizon CS though, forget about it... similarly their online billing system is screwy and works intermittently. Other than that I am happy . | |
