I had Comcast before Verizon, and I must say Verizon's tech support and professionalism has won me over hands down. Not to even mention the performance difference.
I have the HD Extreme TV / FiOS 20/5 internet package. The promo I received was for 79.99/month (first month free, hbo / cinnimax free and free HD DVR for first year)
The order and install process went pretty smooth. They even called me the night before to confirm my order and that I was going to be home for the install. As far as the install went, it was great. The young man that came out to my house was fabulous. I asked for ethernet from ONT to Router and he said "Not a problem" He was there to basically do anything I asked of him. And when the install was completed he stuck around for an extra 45-60 mins to help setup PS3, Laptop, and 2 other desktop PC's and even programmed my DVR remote control for the entertainment system. 
Now for the equipment: I received an Actiontec MI424WR Router, the ONT is Motorola, not sure on model # and the HD DVR is also a Motorola QIP6416-2
I'm a brand name kinda guy, and was happy to see them using quality hardware. Not sure about this router yet... but thus far everything seems to be working great.
In closing, I cant really say I've had a bad experience to speak of yet. Verizon has been very professional and helpful. The install is neat and clean. Everything was done with 'Kid Gloves' If your up in the air about switching to Verizon FiOS just do it, you'll be glad you did. Its one of the better decisions I've made for my internet / home entertainment experience.
