I just want to say from the start that I love my FiOS connection very much. I even convinced my parents to ditch Time Warner and install FiOS for their home because it was available to them before it was available to me.

I had a choice between FiOS and Charter, so it was pretty much a no-brainer.

I moved from an AT&T area to a FiOS area back in July of 2008. I ordered FiOS online and was able to schedule an install date for the day I moved into my new house. Between the time I ordered and the day I moved in, Verizon changed the packages, upgrading internet from 15/2 to 20/5. I called in to have my online order switched to the new upgraded "Flex package." They said that was fine, but were unable to find my online order (not surprisingly). So I set up a new order and luckily the install day and time was still available.

My install took approximately 2 hours even though the tech did not have to install a new ONT or run new coax. Pretty much all he had to do was plug and play, but I wasn't really in a rush and apparently neither was the tech. I received the correct tv boxes (multi-room hd dvr and sd box), and my internet connection was humming along at 20.2/4.8. Very impressive. I got the latest Actiontec router, fed by CAT5 from the ONT.

I received my first bill about a month or so later and not surprisingly I was NOT receiving the correct package. I called up customer support and there was apparently an issue with my Wireless not properly linking with One Bill. They gave me credits and said the issue would be fixed the next month. Next month, same thing. The month after that, I was still being charged for the movie package even though I had called them to take it off. Furthermore, I still wasn't getting the Flex Package. At around that point Verizon adjusted the price of their Flex Package again so I decided to tell them to start over and give me the new Flex Package and I would sign a new contract at that price (which ended up being even cheaper then before).

Out of the 6 or 7 months I've had FiOS, I've only had 1 correct bill. Each month I called customer support, however, I was able to talk them into at least giving me a credit of the difference, so while my bill was never correct, I never got overcharged in the end.

I had one 2 week stretch where my internet wouldn't top more than 13/3, but other than that I've been getting exactly what I've been paying for. The connection has never gone down and the TV channels are as clear as a bell. I continue to recommend FiOS to all my friends but warn them of the billing issues. Most of the time you can work the billing issues to your favor and even get a free month of HBO out of the deal
