After having Time-Warner's triple-play (phone, TV and internet) for a year the "deal" expired and TWC wasn't interested in renewing the old pricing. That, and the fact that our local TWC system does not have many HD channels made look hard at FiOS.

The pricing for STB rentals and services are comparable. Our TW service never had any issues besides the recent DNS outages so reliability wasn't an issue. In the end it was mainly a desire to try FiOS, coupled with the desire for more HD channels, that made me switch. The promo offers for doing a 1 year deal might've helped a little...

Order-to-install time was 10 days. Their installers were busy and ended up working from 5-8pm on a Friday. My phone # didn't get ported due to some mix-up so I ended up having to call into support and getting a new number. Not too big a deal but it's something that you'll want to track closely if you really want to keep your old number. The install went well otherwise.

To me, the service is a bit better than TWC for the same price. I'm locked into it for a year now for better or for worse.

    Re: What????

Nope, don't use Torrent or do P2P file sharing. I do work from home a lot and use a VPN connection back to the office which I'll hammer with SQL queries and file transfers. Sorry, my local TW network was pretty good when it came to bandwidth to the edge of their network so I don't get all fan-boyish over FiOS. It works and I'm happy with it. The "cable" side of the service is better than TW, no doubt.

Sounds like you make your own job hard with that chip on your shoulder. If FiOS is that good then it'd sell itself...and it does to a good degree. Too bad to so many of us have that lingering Verizon taste in our mouths that makes us sit back and look hard at doing business with them.
