I tried Earthlink dialup, then Hugesnet satellite, then Earthlink's PPOE, then GTE's Datalink DSL then DSLextreme - it all sucked. The worst was dialup (for speed) next worst was Hughesnet satellite - for their FAP (fair-access-policy) which throttles your monthly bandwidth, this way you do 2 downloads of something big, like LINUX distro sand you're screwed! DSLextreme started out fine, but after they were bought out, the service and speed sank into the sunset!
I ordered 10/2 FiOS, I'm getting 5-9/1.8-2.1 The PKG includes phone svc and Freedom Calling Bundle at $69/mo total. The order was taken and processed within a week.
Verizon supplied the UltraLine Series 3 Model 9100EM router by Westell, which installed ahead of my own Netgear FVS318 and Linksys WRT54G. I disabled the WiFi on the Westell. The menus were easy to navigate to set it up. So far, so good.
