I ordered the service via the website and selected the double-play bundle with the 25/15 Internet plan along with the Freedom Essentials telephone service.
The bundle came with a price guarantee for two years at a price of $89.99/month with some discounts thrown in to bring the final price down to that point.
Ex-GTE areas get the Westell 9100em router which is not that bad although the firmware is not as mature as it could be. If you go in to the log section of the router, you will see the kernel errors that the router is logging and that should not happen if the firmware were better developed.
It is a shame the DHCP lease is as 'sticky' as it is and that you have to reboot the ONT to release it but that is a minor matter.
Overall, the service is excellent and having the Verizon Direct forum for service requests is great.
If FIOS is available then I strongly recommend it.
UPDATE: I have upgraded the service to a new tier that has become available starting January 17, 2010 - 35/35 and it is very nice indeed. It only cost an extra $15.00 per month and the additional speed increase in both download and upload is useful since both my wife and I use the Internet at the same time for our respective academic courses. The service reliability is very good and my latency remains low. FIOS is still a great product and highly recommended to anyone who can get it.
Second Update 7/27/11- I now pay $79.99 per month for 35/35 Internet which is $10 per month less than I first paid for 25/25 Internet when I first got FIOS including bundle discounts that are no longer in effect.
The service is still outstanding and I have only had a couple of very minor problems all of which have been fixed by posting to the Verizon Direct forum here on this site. FIOS continues to be a great service and since neither myself or my wife are in college at the present moment, we have discontinued cable as a backup and FIOS is our only Internet connection. The uptime has been over 99% so we feel no need to continue to pay for something that we use so very infrequently and when we do have a problem, it does not last for long. FIOS is a product I can highly recommend to anyone as it is a great service.
