We had Verizon DSL prior to the move to FiOS.
Initial order included 20/20 Internet, the Movie Package (Starz, Encore, Showtime, TMC) and the Freedom telephone package on one line. Basic phone service on the aux line.
About a year later we took advantage of a few new deals and ended up with 25/15 Internet, a new Movie Package that includes all the movie channels. We really only wanted the original Movie Package but they were not allowing that with the bundle we ended up with. So, we had to add the all exclusive movie package. During this time we upgraded a STB to a MR. DVR.
No major issues really. The main problems have been trying to understand the billing. Our bill looks nothing like the bill they show in help videos via your STBs and are in fact very hard to figure out an exact breakdown of services.
Equipment supplied is as follows:
ONT UPS: Motorola
2 Standard 2500-3 STBs: Motorola
1 HD STB
1 MR.DVR 6416: Motorola
3 Digital Adapters (no charge): Motorola
Router - AP: Actiontec
Our original Actiontec router (Rev C) blew a capacitor and was replaced without any problem. Replacement router was an Actiontec Rev D. It was used and extremely dirty - filled with dust including some sort of cocoon - had all the previous owners config still set on initial login. I would have thought the routers would be cleaned, cleared & tested but ... not the end of the world.
I think the good outweighs the bad with FiOS by far in regards to an excellent television experience, great Internet connectivity and cutting edge services being added every few months. Having to be stuck with Comcast down the Jersey Shore, I really come to appreciate FiOS and the amount of effort being put into keeping things new and cutting edge. I can't remember the last time Comcast upgraded their box software and they really need to.
FiOS is a great service and excellent value for people wanting to consolidate services and save money. Consider the amount of services you get from FiOS, the price is really amazing.
UPDATE: Switched from POTS to Verizon Digital Voice a few months ago - has been great! Less taxes and crystal clear sound.
