Went online to order and schedule an install time, only to have the day come 2 weeks later, and no one show. I called and there was no trace of me in Verizon's system. Had them schedule an install in 2 days. (Do not trust the Verizon install site, it is broken, IMO.) Several months ago, I received a notice that there would be conduits installed in all the apartments for FIOS. This made the install take 45 minutes or so.
The supplied Actiontec router is a piece of crap. By itself, it is inadequate to place a home file/web server online. It also does not support gigabit ethernet or 802.11n (though I have heard some do, YMMV). Within two weeks, I called and had the ONT switched from coax to ethernet, and I connected my own old router. I do not have TV or phone service, though not a week goes by that I do not get a letter to "upgrade".
I am in Pittsburgh, ordered 25/25 internet only. »speedtest.net/result/1838892797.png
I have noticed that if I torrent even one legal file, my upload speeds plummet to 10 megabits (15 if lucky), and stay there for about a week, sometimes a month or two.
I called at some point to have them send me a paper bill since the card they were using was canceled, but it never came. Had to go online and pay 2 months worth of bills, but there was some error about not being able to pay online due to the (non-existent) paper bill switch. Magically fixed itself the next day (probably a hourly/nightly batch job). Paid no late fees. Hopefully this is my only bad experience with Verizon's infamous billing system.
