Great competitor to big ISP's and DSL offerings and independently operated. Can transit longer distances than DSL.
You must be in line of sight of one of their towers. This is wireless broadband, but not like cell phones.
Possibly the best broadband option in SF Bay Area if you can see the hills from your location.

This review is for their NextGen Advantage Plan 12 down / 6 up plan. This is obviously not as fast as many of the other options available, but it is more than fast enough for streaming video and P2P. They have faster options for more money.

You will have to buy a radio and have it installed on your roof. You can do this yourself, or you can buy one from Unwired. It is about $200.

The service is top-notch reliable. You can talk to a human on tech support 24h a day. They call back within minutes if you email. This kind of internet experience is practically unmatched in this area.

They claim fewer hops to the backbone. I've not tested this.

I have to give up the service because I am moving to a part of Oakland that is in a valley that can't see the tower. I am very bummed about this. I will have to resort to comcast and all the BS that comes with that.

If you're looking for a no-fuss independent Broadband ISP in the SF Bay area, I cannot urge you more to consider Unwired. Just realize that you might not be in the coverage area due to geography of the local hills.
