SuddenLink took over this area from Cox Communications and suddenly they suck. Find another ISP as soon as possible. Stay FAR away from SuddenLink!

| Suddenlink sucks bigtime I agree with you. If you do a search on my name "flipnotic" you will find that I to have had major issues with this new company. Also do a search on "Aenygma." I added my comments to his posts.
I live in Pflugerville, Texas. Around August of 2006 I started noticing that my Internet service which had been very reliable started getting worse and worse. I started noticing that when I did my speed tests from www.speakeasy.net the speed would fluctuate above 9 Meg down even though I was limited to 4. It would go down as slow as 250k. I started noticing that I could not download torrents. I could not share files on IRC. I couldn't even chat on IRC because it was so slow. When I would call their helpdesk I would get people who knew nothing whatsoever about the Internet, file sharing, IRC, etc. I was told to "call Internet Explorer" if I needed further help and to "call a computer technician" if I'm having trouble with my Internet connection. When I told these clueless representatives that I have a degree in computer networking, over 12 years of expertise, and computer certifications, they had nothing to say. I was even told that "Suddenlink does not support file sharing." I was livid. I spent several hours on the phone with these people and nothing got done about the problems I was having. They would say there is no supervisor nearby, but I knew they were lying.
Finally I reached someone whom I will not name. He was very professional and technical. He himself said he wished that Time Warner or Comcast would have bought out the networks that Cox sold in our area. He said he wasn't going to "shoot from the hip." He was very honest with me and he was also helpful. Even though I never had problems with Cox, he said that the underlying problems we are having here in the Georgetown/Pflugerville area is Cox Communication's fault. He said that there are only 2 OC3 connections supplying about 12,000 people (or maybe it was 15,000)on their backbone that goes from Georgetown to Dallas. 2 OC3's only provide 300Mb/sec to all of those people. He told me that Suddenlink had until the end of 2006 to get on their very own backbone and off of the Cox backbone. If you go to Start, Run, and run the command "cmd" and then type in "tracert suddenlink.com" or suddenlink.net, you will find that they are still on the Cox backbone at the time of this writing. The reason for the erratic speed tests and extremely slow file sharing is from a device from Ellacoya Networks. It extremely limits any file sharing down to speeds as slow as 1Kb/sec. This guy I spoke with told me that if Suddenlink didn't do this, everyone would suffer. All the customers who just use their connection to check emails and surf the web are totally clueless that this was happening to them and they are paying a big price. If you ask me, that should be illegal.
I had DSL for over 3 years until the end of 2005, then I switched to Cox. I did this not because I had any problems with my DSL connection, but I hated SBC's customer service. I have some rants on here about SBC too and they aren't nice. I had to eat crow and switch back to AT&T (SBC)last month. I have absolutely no problems now with ANY downloads and I am VERY happy with the service again. I really do wish I could have stayed with Cox because they were very reliable and because I really had a very strong dislike of SBC. Suddenlink really needs to get their act together, and they had better do it fast. There are so many people out there who have no idea what a fast broadband Internet connection is or how it compares to a dial up connection. Many haven't had to deal with dial up. These people are getting charged as much as I was which was $43.05 a month (that is including the tax). I had Suddenlink refund me $129.15. I told them I shouldn't have to pay for a service that doesn't work. I don't know what made them give in, but I did threaten to take this to the media. The problem is, I don't think many people in the media are very technical either. It is very frustrating trying to find anyone at Suddenlink that knows what is going on. I was told by a supervisor in Dallas that there is a lot of unhappy people working at Suddenlink since Cox left. She told me that they put people on the phones that do everything. That means they answer cable TV questions, billing, and Internet service questions. They don't even have to be technical. That is Suddenlink's way of doing business and even these people I spoke with agreed with me when I said they need technical people for the Internet services and cable people for television services. One of the Tier 1 or Tier 2 people said they didn't have to have any experience to get their job. Go figure then! How are these guys going to stay in business?!?
I am glad I am seeing posts like these on DSLREPORTS. Sorry for this lengthy rant, but I am getting the word out on this one.

@suddenlink.net
| Suddenlink Sucks! I too am from Pineville and i says SUDDENLINK SUCKS!! I recently moved and it took well over 2 weeks to get the cable installed....called a few days before the move so we'd have everything set up and the woman my Dad talked to said there would be NO DOWNTIME internet wise...Well they were supposed to show up on a Wed. and didn't, then Fri. all day and still didn't...then the following Tuesday we called and some guy who sounded wasted and could never understand what he was saying, said that our service was active, which it wasn't. Had to keep telling this lame ass that it wasn't and then he said he couldn't send a truck for free and asked if we were willing to pay for one...WTF???!! Anyway....called back 3 or 4 more times and talked to someone who sounded like he knew what was going on or as close as he could get to knowing I guess...sent someone over and instead of an installation call, he sent a troubleshooter.....I guess if you have a reference number that means jack squat to the person you talk to on the phone...I thought they enter the ref. number and get your account info...the lame ass I referred to earlier acted like we never called to set anything up...also he said it was a self install we had set up....well the troubleshooter said it should have been an installation call and he was nice enough to hook up the cable in a cpl rooms and then send someone out the following Tuesday(one week later) to install the other hookups...well that Tuesday, big shocker here...no one showed....had to call AGAIN and they said Thursday...well to make a long story short here...someone came and hooked us up...after several E-Mails to Seldomlink, they FINALLY wrote back and gave us $47 and some change credit after complaining that we shouldn't have to pay for servies we never had...
now on to the new complaint....
For the past few days...we're lucky if we have our digital channels working. Every time we want to watch something on digital cable such as ROME on HBO, the "temporarily off air" message comes on screen. just when you think that everything is working again...poof...no more digital channels...THIS SUCKS to pay for digital cable and only are able to watch regular basic cable.....Suddenlink's sending a technician out tomorrow morning to bring a new cable box, (which I'll be shocked if that works)....this is the same cable box we have had since Cox and had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL until Suddenlink(or should I say SELDOMLINK),took over. This has been going on the past few days and I'm p.o.'d that I am unable to watch what I want when I want...Suddenlink's tv ads sounds great, but it makes me wanna smack everyone on the ad praising their service...there slogan should be "Seldomlink...We're NOT connected!!" I am sure others have had this problem and I am curious to know if it was resolved and how.... Another problem we had too....when we were mpvong, the 1st woman we talked to said we had the old fastest internet speed and we needed a new modem and that we were renting it and we could purchase a faster one for 50 bucks...we could have bought a giant warehouse full with the money we've paid out on it already...anyway, long story short again...we took it to the local office expecting to get a new modem and the woman there said for 50 bucks you get a used one and new ones are 75...well then she gave us the used modem and I handed her our old modem and she didn't know why we were giving it back and I said that we were renting this and that we need to exchange it for a faster modem...she said oh, well the 50 bucks then was buying the modem you already have and the modem has nothing to do with the internet speed....so we went back home with what we had and the guy who hooked up our cable said we already have the fastest connection...I told the lady that we were told different things from several people so we were confused....
Ok enough ranting....I just hope they actually show up tomorrow and fix the cable problem...

| Re: Suddenlink Sucks! I am sorry you are having to go through that. All Suddenlink is good for now is expanded basic. If you can get DSL over there get it. It looks like you got some pretty bad customer service representatives too. I believe you when you said that one guy seemed to be drunk. What I think is going on is Suddenlink cannot afford to pay anyone enough that knows anything about computers or cable television. Just do what I did and stay on their butts and demand you either get the service you paid for or get your money back. Never take "no" for an answer. I was even demanding to speak with the owner of Suddenlink and nobody would ever hook me up. I would love to tell that guy what a disaster his company is.
I still have expanded basic and I'm happy with that. That is about all Suddenlink is good at.

| Re: Suddenlink Sucks! Well, I guess it depends on where you are. I have expanded basic in Bastrop County (less than 50 miles from Pflugerville) and I have a HUGE problem with reception quality. I have pictures posted on my webshots site ( »community.webshots.com/user/msxenovia ) of the lousy reception I've been getting since August, 2006. My internet connection speeds are dismal and I can count on a daily outage between noon and 5pm.
AND MY LAST STATEMENT ANNOUNCED A RATE INCREASE!
I can't recommend Suddenlink for any service so far.

| Re: Suddenlink Sucks! Mrs. Miller,
I strongly advise you to keep calling Suddenlink. You need to get through to the people in Georgetown. I am being careful not to mention the guys who helped me on here because they did stick their necks out for me. If you leave an email address on here perhaps I can talk to you in person. I would leave a Hotmail or Yahoo email address just for stuff like this. I did get $129.15 in refunds after I demanded 3 months free Internet service. My reason behind that was the fact that I was not getting the service I paid for and apparently Suddenlink agreed with me. Maybe they didn't want me to go to the media. These posts really do expose Suddenlink as the failure they are not only as a cable company, but an Internet provider as well. I think you should talk with anyone else you know who is also experiencing horrible service from Seldomlink and complain with them directly. Something definitely needs to be done.

| Re: Suddenlink Sucks! Thanks for the support, flipnotic. I read email at mrscm3@yahoo.com . I use the internet & watch TV a lot less these days 'cause I just can't deal with the frustration. Know any lawyers who are Suddenlink subscribers? Maybe we could get a class action suit going. OH! The pain and suffering/mental anguish!! (joking.)
BTW, back in September when I first started my rampage, Suddenlink did reduce my monthly rate. Of course, this month they've announced a rate increase and I haven't received any credit for down time or unavailable TV channels. I've spoken to CS reps in Tyler, TX and they have been very polite and considerate, running through the modem checks with me, but of course, this wasn't helpful because the fault lies not with MY equipment, but with theirs. I'll add my two cents to yours if you do a media blitz on them! I've got pictures!

| SuddenLink is slow I am living in North central Oklahoma, where Cox recently pulled out just as they did everywhere else. In its place, we received SuddenLink, who claims to be using the same reps, same lines, same hardware, etc. so they should be providing the same service!
Unfortunately, since SuddenLink took over officially, I have had nothing but trouble. The day they made the switch, we were down for 4 days. After service was finally restored, I had to request a prorated rebate for those days. In order to receive the prorate, I had to pester them for 3 months!
To make matters worse, each night after work I go home and typically work or play an mmorpg on my computer, both of which require a constant internet link. At least four times an hour, my computer goes through its little cycle of 'lost connection -- reconnecting -- connected' that takes a few moments to reestablish an internet connection.
I have sent SuddenLink no less then 5 emails and complaint letters trying to request something be done. I get the standard form letter response: "Did you know Suddenlink can provide help online? Click here... ". Too bad they don't answer my questions or understand the problem.
I am now looking to purchase a phone line in order to qualify for DSL since SuddenStink is the only cable internet service provider in my small town.
I hate paying more for service but at least when I make the switch to DSL I should be guaranteed better service and reliability.

| Re: SuddenLink is slow I switched back to DSL in December and I could never be happier. I had DSL for 3 1/2 years until I switched to Cox around October 2005. I did so because I hated SBC and their lousy customer service NOT because of any problems with the DSL. DSL is solid here. I don't know how long Seldomlink/UnSuddenlink/Suddenstink can get away with its shenanigans. What I continue to read on here just blows me away. I had no problems with Cox until the time Seldomstink screwed it all up in August. I honestly do not believe the claim that it is Cox's fault. How could that be when they had to use the same backbone and network as Cox did? There is obviously some stuff going on that they don't want their customers to know about. It is like their representatives are intellectually challenged or something. They don't even know the simplest things. As I've been saying, just stay on Seldomlink's butt. Demand more than just a few day's service; demand a few months. I say this to everyone who is still using Suddenlink, erm, Seldomlink. Suddenlink blaming Cox for their failures is like Chimperor Bush blaming our nation's problems on Bill Clinton. That is another story for another day. | |

@suddenlink.net | SuddenLink Service SuddenLink service sucks. Do not use them if you have alternatives. I'll be switching from my Cox contract as soon as I can. SuddenLink Cox.

| Suddenlink is killing me! I had Cox and suddenlink took over Mount Pleasant, Tx. It was ok when i had cox and it was ok when i went to suddenlink BUT when I moved and it got hooked up through suddenlink, it is crap, I got the fastest internet possible through them and its going at about 300 mbits when it should be like 9000 mbits. There seams to be a problem with that picture. Plus, 4 technicians have came out and it just continues to mess up. they blamed it on my router, so I told them to direct connect and it still didn't work. Everytime someone else comes out they say it's my router and so I say the same thing. I'd literally me better off just getting dial up. you notice I put suddenlink in all lowercase because they aren't important. DON'T GET suddenlink(LOL), it sucks and they aren't wanting to do anything about it. | |

| Suddenlink is a JOKE, but I'm not laughing I stumbled across this site and I absolutely agree. I'm in north MS and Suddenlink is HORRIBLE. The service is awful, doesn't work half the time and forget talking to anyone who knows what they're talking about. I waste anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours a week trying to get my internet service to work (which I might add is a whopping $50 per month) They have no problem increasing rates at will.
By the way, I was looking for an alternative ISP when I found this site. Government rules and regulations give these companies a monopoly with non-compete laws. In my business, we would lose all of our customers if our service was this bad.
| | robertfl Premium join:2005-10-10 Mary Esther, FL | Re: Suddenlink is a JOKE, but I'm not laughing You guys need to report this to your local city and let them look into it. It's too bad Cox sold out in your areas.
I hope they have very little customers and just go bankrupt.
SeldomLink doesn't deserve to stay in business.

| suddenlink sucks Suddenlink sucks everywhere! Im in Northern California, where suddenlink is the ONLY provider for local channels, (ABC, NBC, FOX, etc.) so there are no other cable options. I had internet through them and switched to DSL, and tried to switch from cable to directv but couldnt, so now i guess im just screwed. Isnt there something we an do? if everyone is having the same problem? (currently I have been on hold for 68 minutes to tech support) It seems like there ought to be someone we can talk to to get this BS monopoly fixed. ?? any suggestions? | |

| If you have a choice, look elsewhere My experience...nineteen calls about slow or down service in eight months. Basically, we did not expect the net to work between 7 and 7 and gave up "It is a rural thing..." we were told. Hey, you guys are from Louisiana where it is poor so be glad with what you have. I heard the ghost of Huey Long in their arrogant voices.
Finally, a supervisor noticed that we had an old router and had never been upgraded. "I m surprised it works at all... any of our employees should have told you that...Guess they mae a mistake" (hahahaha)
Thanks. | |

| Suddenlink not only sucks, it blows Suddenlink took over for Cox in much of texas, including my area. the cable quality is shoddy on many channels, and the "high speed" internet conks out at least once a week.
Which makes it even more infuriating when I hear their stupid commercials on the radio about how "boringly reliable" they are. They're about as reliable as tissue paper shock absorbers, and as useless as a weasel in a cardboard shirt.
To make matters worse, Verizon DSL seems to realize this, so they charge an arm and a leg, though at least they don't have the outage problems SL does
