    My Other Reviews·PHONE POWER
    June 2008

Suddenlink's 12/1 service was supposed to be available in May/June 2007. Well that never materialized and in December they released a 12/768 service.

I immediately signed up as soon as it was available in December. They told me a technician would have to come and install it and there would be a $70 upgrade fee. Knowing that I had brand new cable to the house last year and that my modem was 2.0 I said that that was necessary as i should get the speed. The rep told me that it was required so I reculantly agreed for the tech to come out and be charged the $70 upgrade/install fee.

A few minutes after hanging up my speed had been bumped and i received 11.7 Mbps instead of my 6.4 Mbps usual speed. I kept postphoning my install appointment since I was getting the speed there was def no need to waste $70. Then in January it snowed. Ever since then I have not been able to achieve a constant speed. I called support and they sent somebody out and they couldn't find out anything that was wrong except that a tech had not been here yet to install the 12 meg service and that is why i was having problems. After arguing about having the speed for a month without the install untill the snow came I finally gave in and let the "installation" take place.

The installation consisted of a subcontractor coming out and visiting the website »speedtest.wv.suddenlink.net and running a test. It happened to come to 10.9 that day so he said I was all set and there went $70 down the drain.

I have acheived the 12 meg speed about 10 times since January 2008. Most of the times I can not even get 6 although i used to constantly get 6 or above when on their then top of the line 6/256 package. Tech support is a joke all they can do is send out a truck. Then you wait the entire day and nobody shows up. On days they do show up they tell me the same thing ..... there is nothing they can do and that the lines look good. Of course they fail to mention that there are 180 people on the node and that there have been line issues in my block and the 2 on either side of me.

So since December my bill went up $20 a month plus the $70 "install/upgrade" fee to go to the 12 meg service which is really like 1-4 meg service

Not to mention they threatened to shut off my service because I had not paid a bill that I had not received. I have been a customer of their's/Charters since 2004 when I moved to this area and have never paid late.

So I have paid an extra $210 (Dec 07 - June 08) over the 6 Meg service that worked as advertised.

I will likely be switching to Verizon DSL 7.1/768 service soon!!

    May 2007 Review

Suddenlink took over Charter and our service has been unstable ever since finally switch modems since their techs state that the surfboards do not get along with their equipment. So finally got it fixed after the first girl who took the mac address of my new modem had a "n" in the address. which is obv not a hexdecimal character.

So anyways they were supposed to double our speeds from 3000/256.

Week 1 Doubled our upload to 512 but download is still 3000
Week 2 Decreased our upload to orig 256 download still same
Week 3 Increased Download to 6000 upload still 256
Week 4 called tech support they state that speed will only be 6000/256 after they were stating double up and download speeds.

Suddenlink is much better now that I have switched from Motorola Surfboard to a different modem.
Best broadband option in my area.

Downfalls 6Mbps is fastest offering in our area compared to 15 and 10 elsewhere
Paltry 256kps upload esp when compared elsewhere at 2Mbps
