    As of 1/2/08, Suddenlink has improved since I first placed this review. Internet is more reliable, phone service was added, no price increases but G4 was moved from the expanded line-up to the Family Tier.

    Cable TV service works well, good picture on all channels the VOD service works great no complaints there except their decision to remove the MLB Extra Innings and NHL Center Ice sport packages.

    Their phone service is good, clear sound, only time it is out is when there is an internet outage.

    Internet is good. Download speeds are great while the upload speeds could use some work. Recently Suddenlink began offering a new Internet service the 12 MB/764kb Internet service for $59.99 ($49.99 if you have their Cable TV and Phone service). Sounds great right, jealous? There is a draw back, there is a mandatory tech call that comes with it plus a $69.99 install/setup fee for the tech to come to your house.

    Suddenlink claims this is necessary by saying in order for customers to receive the full speed wiring in some houses may need replaced, they need to check the line from the pole to the house. Well if it is why charge more than the speed? The tech call is mandatory or you can't receive the speed and must take the 1.5 MB/256kb or 6 MB/256kb Internet speeds.

    Your not supposed to receive the 12 MB/764kb speed until the tech comes to your house but if your lucky a tech may slip and authorize your modem for the speed. But if you cancel they will downgrade your modem to 6 MB/256kb until a tech can come out.

    Update: March 18, 2008

    Well my experience with Suddenlink has taken a rocky road since the last time I updated this review. Here is my review and problems with Suddenlink since January 2008.

    Changes in Pricing: At the beginning of January 2008, Suddenlink raised their rates again. Only services related to Cable TV were increased, phone & Internet services stayed the same. And Suddenlink discontinued a vast majority of programming packages and re-structured others. Most notable is the Premier Link Packages which included Basic, Exp. Basic, One receiver, One tier, HBO/Max, Starz/Encore, and Internet for a low monthly price. The Value Link packages were restructured NOT to include a standard digital receiver.

    Customer Service: In January I was flat out lied to by two different CSRs telling me I was in a non-existent package so I would not drop my premium services (HBO/Max & Starz/Encore) My package was broken up when I upgraded to the 12 Meg Internet service. I did not know that my package was completely broken until the 15th call in a row I made to them. Lately in March I have experienced great customer service with issues and billing.

    Internet: Could be better I must admit. It is good for the most part. I only have had three problems with Suddenlink. Lately there have been times with high pings and latency then times with low pings and latency. Wish this issue would be corrected. The DSL in my area can't compare (really they can't they just launched their 3 MB/384 k speed which most of the time is like 1.5/384 kb)

    TV: Somewhat high for what they offer. Cable, Digital Cable, and On Demand works great. Loving the new On Demand content they keep adding. My friend loves their HD content.

    Phone: Great phone service, can't tell a difference between Suddenlink phone and Frontier phone. Unlimited long distance, caller ID, call forwarding, etc. for $39.99/month can't beat that when Frontier charges anywhere from $50 to $65 for the same thing.

    So all in all Suddenlink is an average provider has quirks that need to be worked out. They could lower prices just a tad though. I would recommend them for Internet & Phone since Frontier in my area is mostly expensive crap. However unless you are very into their new On Demand content like Anime Network On Demand or their upcoming WWE 24/7 On Demand, DirecTV or Dish Network would be the best way to go if you are looking to pinch a penny. However if Suddenlink is your only option then go for it.

    Note: I would like to point out that I pay $211.00 for all of my services. I have ValueLink (Basic, Exp. Basic, Family Tier), Movie Tier, DVR Service, DVR Box, 2 digital receivers, Anime On Demand, HBO/Max (promotional rate), Starz/Encore (promotional rate), Showtime/TMC, 12 Meg Internet and Telephone.

    Bad Service

    @suddenlink.net

    Could be better

    My speeds have drastically reduced even though Sudden link upgraded the speed, yeah right. Download and browsing is hit or miss. You have to bounce to TX before you can get out from WV. They replaced my modem because they said mine was bad, a typical we don't know what were doing move. Later on I figured out that they were setting up the service to Suddenlink from the changeover when it was sold by Charter. So a bad modem, field techs didn't know service was being changed. Left doesn't know what right hand is doing. Not a good business practice, service paid for and service received is about half what it should be. Since Suddenlink has changed it over, the speed has dropped even though they have raised the service speed, at no cost.
