Humboldt county has been having latency issues; this we all know. But tonight they went and did the worst possible thing any provider could do to someone who pays for the "Preferred 8Mbit" internet; capped the connection at 1Mbit.

Sure it makes sense; if we cap ALL users who use the bandwidth they pay extra for then there would be no latency problems on the network.

Suddenlink, this is the worst possible thing you could do; the most disgusting of all. After acquiring the tftp file from the docsis modem, I've come to the realization that other service providers (no matter the added cost) will from tomorrow on receive my business.

As for the tftp file, I'll be editing out what I need to and releasing it to the media within the coming days.

We have not indiscriminately capped users. In fact, the vast majority of customers should be seeing -- and many have told us they already are -- improvements in their service. Perhaps you and I could discuss the problem you're encountering, and determine the precise cause of it. Email me if you would at pete.abel@suddenlink.com. You can verify me here: »Suddenlink Tech Support.

    Still Bad

Pete. I gave you the information you requested; However the connection remains at a pathetic level.

Those interested, google 100001_vm1.0_d.cfg... This is the configuration file your modem is given by Suddenlink.

This configuration file is LIMITED or CAPPED, bandwidth limited, by Suddenlink. Those who tell you otherwise are not qualified to tell you so.

Suddenlink agreed to drop my cost by $15/mo for the rest of the year after I called with all intention to cancel service.

The question: How much longer must we deal with BELOW-DSL speeds?

    zONED -

WHO DID you talk to? (the locals in office here in EKA?) - Im here in Hydesville - and for a long while - we were having latency issues every night - I have been able to see some progress in that department for about a week - but now its happening again - I too pay for much more than I appear to be getting here in HUMBOLDT COUNTY CA, - Pete Please tell us they are working on keeping the fix going that had been working great until tonight - 10/21/08... I too am getting some slow speeds here again :{////

z0ned2 -- I'm sorry to hear that, but understand. Best of luck to you. I am confident the situation has and will continue to improve, so if DSL does not prove to your liking, I hope you'll reconsider us.

    Suddenlink slowdown

I had a tech out here to the house to check my service. While he was here he told me that Suddenlink had too many users for the bandwidth available. Parts are on order to correct the problem; however, they come from AT&T and are backordered (unknown ETA). We are all irritated with the situation but Suddenlink is working on it. If you call cust. service, they will discount your premiums until the problem is corrected. I imagine the HDTV boom accounts for a lot of the issue. I wish they could cut that back a bit to ease the problem a bit.
