    I signed up with DreamHost in late 2006, and have been fairly happy with them. They're a perfect web host for even just backing up files, as they give you dedicated server-like storage and bandwidth. You also get a linux shell account so you can do things that way if desired. For a shared web host, they are just plain amazing.
