I'm a VERY happy Telocity User in Chicago! Great site BTW, and it definitly helped when choosing a DSL. Flashcom is also in the area and I did not go with them based on the majority of reviews. I picked Telocity and have actually had a pleasant DSL experience!
Called Pre Sales in late February. Telocity had a promotion at the time of 2 free months with a 1 yr. contract if service was ordered before Feb. 29th. There were 2 instances where I called Telocity for general information. They were busy and took down my number but never received a call. That is the reason Pre Sales received the lowest rating. On my 3rd call I actually spoke with a Sales agent. Although not the most technical he was very helpful. I signed up on Feb. 29th and was told to expect an email after Ameritch came out to check the line.
March 21st (about 3 weeks after I ordered) I received an e-mail confirming that Rythms would be out on the 24th for installation. The time I was given was between 8-12 am.
March 24th, 8:30 am Rythms arrives for installation. On time and very professional. I took down their names saying I would write a review and wanted to mention their names but have since lost the paper I wrote it on! If Rythms mngt is reading there were 2 guys. 1 just moved here from Ohio and the other installed DSL in England. Again sorry I forgot their names but they did an awesome job! I was a little skeptical that Ameritcech had come out prior to their visit, but when we opened the phone box outside of the building I was suprised to see Ameritech left a tag stating it was all set. A thumbs up to Ameritech ( I never thought I'd say that!).
Using a CopperMountain box (go CMTN!), they were able to determine I was less than 8000 feet and capable of 1.5 Mbps!
I had to wait a few days for the Modem. When it arrived and I did the software installation, the modem could not talk w/the DSLAM. I called Tech Support. Since my DSL light on my box was blinking at a sporadic rate, it was determined that Telocity still need to push configuration out in order to get everyone talking. I was told this could take 3 days. I was patient and in 2 days the modem lights were looking as they should. I then did the installation of the software, the modem was configured and I was connected.
My connection speed was 208K. So I was a little dissapointed. I called Tech Support to ask if they could up my speed. I spoke w/James in Rochester NY (garbage plates galore ). Very helpful w/that and a few email questions. That nite when I arrived home (I call from work), speed was up to 1.0 Mbps!!
Ever since I've been happy and connection has been consistent. I had to wait on avergage 15 mins. everytime I called Tech Support. Telocity could use a few more people but action was taken after I spoke with them. Thanks all!
Chuck
