13 months later seems to be a fair time to review my WISP connection. 1000/1000 for $99.99 a month + overages. I knew what I was getting in to when I signed-up. New company 900 MHz NLOS, first residential customer on a node designed for business. ( The NLOS coverage is a 1 mile radius.)
OK, so first they tell me I need to provide my own router, then change that policy. They sell me a static IP, then decide not to honor the concept. It took them 60 days to get to me, but they finally did. All was well until their NOC burned to the ground, I saw it, not a pretty site. I have a power user roommate, which resulted in traffic-shaping efforts, but no ports were blocked. When they discovered that I could access the router they provided, I got an immediate service call, and they denied my access to the router.
Today, all is well. Startouch finally has gotten their infrastructure in place and can handle the load. I get about 1300/1200 when I test from Speakeasy Seattle.
This is as good as it gets here. I'm looking at WildBlue when they launch the new bird, but it's a bit hard to justify the latency.
