I am sending a follow up review of Bell Atlantic. I previously reviewed
them very badly, and was switching to a different DSL provider. After
taking some time to reflect a bit, I decided to re-think that. I am a very
light user of the Internet, (maybe 2 to 3 times per week), my 10 year old
uses it more than I do. To switch to the other company I was going to have
to put out of pocket $198.00, plus pay $13.00 per month to rent a modem.
When I signed up for Bell Atlantic I got free install, and a $99.00 modem
(which through a mix-up on there end I ended up getting for free). So it
didn't seem feasible to put all that money out of pocket for a service that
I could do without (I only want DSL because I am the kind of person who has
a need for speed). I sent an E:Mail to the CEO of Bell Atlantic, and I did
get a response, but like a lot of other people I was put on Presidential
Appeals, so Tech. Support wouldn't help me at all, and I had no number,
names, anything to contact. So I sent another E:Mail to the CEO, I received
a phone call back within 2 hours, and was given Names and Phone numbers to
call and work directly with. My original problem was with my profile (Error
629). It took a little over a week to get everything fixed after this
process (With the Tech calling me 2 times per day keeping me informed every
step of the way). I guess the moral to my story is Bell Atlantic DSL is
still a very new Technology that they are more interested in getting new
customers signed up than they are with getting current customers to work.
My DSL has now worked for 2 weeks with little problems, but I must admit I
don't have a very high degree of confidence in it. If you are considering
DSL for casual surfing, home enjoyment, etc.. Bell Atlantic is a good
choice. When the DSL is down, you do get compensated for it, and still can
use their Dial-Up. When it works it is fast. If you are considering DSL
with more of a reliability business need, I would look elsewhere. Keep in
mind that with a person working on my problem on a pretty regular Basis,
pushing to get it to work it took a little over a week to get working, so If
you are going to work with their regular Tech Support Set back and relax a
while. By the way my total down time trying to get this working was 27
days, and I am getting 6 months free for my trouble. Free Modem, 6 Months
free, and Free Install, you can't beat that.

Best of luck with DSL everyone, and Take a deep breath and relax.
