Eatel has been a good company to me. They're probably the first true fiber internet provider in Louisiana. The connections are solid and fast. I ordered the premium package which is 10Mbps/1Mbps and it seems like a good choice. There are other options through the company including DSL and they're still laying new fiber daily.

Update 1-4-07: Looks like Eatel is still working the bugs out. Although I'm getting above 10Mbps/1Mbps to their local server, outside their local fiber, I'm only getting about 6Mbps. This looks like a problem with their backbone connections and is causing some line loss and latency problems.

Update 2-7-08: Eatel has now brought their top tier home user package to 15Mbps/1Mbps. I believe they still suffer from some latency problems outside their own backbone and I'm not sure they're going to fix the problem. Lately I've been experiencing some disconnect issues when downloading, I'm not sure what the cause is, but I know they stated they were working on the problem.

Update 9-6-08: Eatel's FiberEdge package has been a great product. I would still like to see them solve the outside latency issues because of the major slowdowns when accessing outside the Eatel networks. This is a definite backbone problem and is probably caused by being on a poor or congested backbone. The 15Mbps/2Mbps is actually more like a 10Mbps/1Mbps connection and for some reason they still believe they don't have a problem. When they realize that the only people that review ISP's are technically savy reviewers for the most part that push their connections to the limits then they will realize that although their service is good for the average user, it still lacks on the high end. To become the truly dominant ISP in Louisiana they must fix this backbone issue. After numerous complaints of the issue, I tire of complaining. I suppose that was what they were counting on. There's just not enough people that really push their connection to the limits as I do I suppose.

I still would not trade my Fiber for the alternative Cox Cable connection, because of the overall reliability and friendliness of Eatel.

    Update 9-13-09

Eatel is still going strong with their FiberEdge connections and since last year has doubled their speeds to 30Mbps/15Mbps for their top tier consumer offering. Comparing Eatel to our other local high speed option, Cox, is like an SSC Ultimate Aero TT against a Porsche 911. Their both fast but when you want to break speed records, a Porsche just doesn't cut it.

Overall, I have been happy with EATELs service and it is fast to the EATEL system but out to the internet it is slower than Cable. When I complained about the latency problems and the lack of bandwidth out to the rest of the internet, EATEL acted as if it was the first that they had ever heard of it but I am sure that is not the case. I think that if they work out whatever problem that there is with their backbone connection then this will be the best high speed value in Louisiana but until then, their cable competitor will have an edge over Fiber Edge. By the way, I am sticking with EATEL because they are much nicer to deal with than their competition and it is certainly in the category of 'fast enough'.

    I agree with him

Im very happy with the service, but i was also told i was nuts when i implied there speeds outside the network are slower!
