Probably the smoothest transaction I ever had with an ISP. I phone them to place my order. Six days later I received my modem along with my filters, connected it up and bang, I was on the net. The modem came pre-configured in router mode but Acanac left the modem's web page wide open so first thing I did is switch it to bridge mode so I can use my router. Got connected end of January 2008 and never had any problems since.
The caveats with Acanac are the following. You pay your first year in one shot (12 x 18.95$ = 227.50$) plus a deposit for the modem (about 50$) but the price includes the taxes, a modem, two filters and the setup fees. I have paid about 277.50$ total, no more. According to them, if you return your modem, you get your 50$ deposit back. The second caveat is about the monthly fee which increases to 33.95$/month after one year. Then again, this gives me plenty of time to determine if I stay with them or not. For me, the first year is a great deal.
Acanac claims they support 5M service but I live in the country far from CO. Therefore, they configured the modem for a 3M service. This actually gives me an effective throughput of 2.5M/700K. It is quit a drop from my previous ISP but I can live with this for now. So although the bad point is the speed, it probably has more to do with my current location than Acanac.
So far, apart from the speed, I'm impressed with my Acanac Internet connection. And for 20$/month, I figure I can't go wrong. I will re-evaluate them towards the end of the year.
