In OCT 06 Springfield, IL was made a Broadband Access Zone for Verizon.

They say max is 2mb down but usually is 400-700k. They don’t say on how much is up. The first day I got it I had 2mb down and 7 mb up and it stayed at that it just wasn’t bursts. I had that all over the city, but after the second day I was hardly getting 400k down and 56k up and most of the time it kept switching me from the Broadband Access to the National Access which is max of 144kb down but usually 60-80kb and lets not even talk about the upload on the National. (And I have 3 bars of signal and it keeps switching from the Broadband to National and Verizon says I’m out of the area but I’m sorry unless they moved the tower it worked great the first day I had 4 bars of the Broadband. I think there network is too congested.)

I paid $100 for the card with $50 mail in rebate, $35 activation and $79.99 per month since I’m not a Verizon Voice Customer if I was it would be $59.99 per month. There is a 15 day worry free trial no ands if or buts you don’t like it you return it they refund it.

The ip changes every time you d/c and they have this so fire walled you cant even do a remote access.

Also Don’t think about downloading, uploading, or streaming music or videos, or doing voip(one since it violates there terms of service two it wont work for shit since its so choppy) automatic termination no questions asked and no appeal process.

Its worth it if you don’t have Internet that’s why I first got it to see if it would work and it worked nice that first day and I was going to keep it but after that the service just isn’t good enough to keep. Its also worth it if you Travel a lot since they do have great coverage, I think in the Springfield market its just not fully setup properly or its just too congested.)

UPDATE 02/05/2007 - Well I decided to keep the service. Its working hella better now since its connecting to the Rev-A im getting great signal and great speeds. Its worth it now. Ill keep you posted.

Also I would of considered switching to Sprint Mobile Broadband or even Cingular but none of them can offer highspeed down here.

UPDATED - 06/09/2007 - I ended up buying a new notebook and needed to get an Express card. Verizon was total asses about selling me a new one they wouldnt offer any kind of discount just told me it would cost $300+ (full retail). I ended up buying an V740 on ebay for $150 and am using it now. I will be cancelling Verizon when Cingular 3G comes out in my area. The service is good but they could of worked something out.

    verizon usb720 slower than dialup

My office allows me to telecommute, but I have to pay for internet service and the only option for "high speed" is Verizon two-year contract with a $185 cancellation fee. There is no DSL or cable internet out here. I got the USB 720. It worked fine for the first month, but now, it is slower than dialup. I get kicked out of my office network and sometimes disconnected. It takes detective work to get support from Verizon. Try finding the number. Support did nothing anyway, except kept me on the phone for about an hour. There is no consumer protection anymore, but I feel that Verizon committed fraud. I can't believe that I have to pay 185 to cancel my service when they aren't providing the service they promised.
