Review of ISP Forthnet Greece htttp://www.forthnet.gr/

I have already 4 months with this company so I think is a good time to write a review. I must mention here that is a telephony/Internet package, and came with an offer of 19.90 Euro/month, or 27$.

The order

I fill an aplication online, after 3 hours a FORTHNET staff member, called me back to ask me if I really want to change carrier/company. After I confirmned the aplication details, and that I really want to change carrier, she asked me to go to the nearest Forthnet shop-point to sign-up the contract.

After I signed the contract, they gave me the equipment, and told me that I have to wait up to 30 days for the carrier change to take effect. That meant to transfer telephone line/number to forthnet. From Tellas my ex-provider.

I pay no transfer fee whatsoever. And after 24 days I received a call from the company to informed me that all is set and next morning would procceed to thye conection.

Next morning I was about 3 hours with no phone and Internet, and after 3 hours connection established.

I was signed for up to 24Mnps download 1Mbps upload

The equipment

Package contained Thomson TG585 V7 WIRELESS router, 3 PSTN filters, Ethernet/ USB /telephone cables, a CD with drivers and software, and a printed User guide.
Installation was easy and with no problems under Windows XP.

Thomson wireless router came with a built-in hardware firewall and you can change all the modem / router parameters thrrough the router interface.

With extra fee I could had broadband TV and VOIP services, for which I wasn’t interesting.

Technical support

Detailed information for almost every problem and how to deal with it ,someone can find on Forthnet portal , also there is a telephone support line, but sometimes is hard to contact them, must wait over 5 min., and if there is a problem you can’t solve, there is a technician available who can come to your place but with a 50 Euro fee / 65$.

DSL SPEED

Speeds never dropped down from 120 Mbytes /sec. average is 130 MBytes / sec. which means over the 1 Mbps I pay for.

Download speeds varies from 800 Mbytes /sec. for a single file up to 3200 Mbytes/sec. for multiply files download.
Average speed is 2200 to 2400 Mbytes / sec which means between 17 to 19 Mbps .

Only one ISP (OTENET) Has better and MORE stable speeds so far from Forthnet,
but the fee Internet +telephone service is about 45€ per momth, over than double the cost.

For a fee of 20 Euro per month ,and with the above speed PLUS free calls to other carriers nationalwide, and to 43 countries around the world, PLUS 1 Hour per month to mobiles there was a very good deal.
In comparison what other ISP supply and on what fee.

As I wrote the fee I pay 20€ /month was an offer for a year. After a year fee will go up to 32.45€ or $44.45 but even then if the speeds remain as there are is quiet a good price for Hellenic territory compare the price of other ISPs.

Bottomline

Reliable Internet& telephony Service provider, coming with very good equipment package, and if the respond time on telephone support become faster, then I could vote them as the best ISP in my area.

After 3½ years I think this review need an update.

Things that changed are:

A) The price. Now with 29.90€ ($41) (Was a Summer's offer) you can have :
24bps ADSL+ unlimited calls Nationwide (stable and mobile) + satellite TV (start pack).

Starts as a 12 months contract ,but can continue after that with same price, for as long as you like.
Best offer ever from any ISP on Greece.

B) Speeds are better and connection more reliable.

Things that remain the same and will hope they'll change some day:
Time you need to wait for someone to pick up the phone on tech support department.

But I have to say when they pick up the phone, staff there are polite and eager to help.
