In the summer of 2006, we were looking for an alternative to AT&T. We were tired of the costs. Somehow, we found out about Comcast Digital Voice. We may have been one of the first people in our area to get it.
We called and had someone come out and set it up. We were able to transfer our original phone number to CDV. Our adapter is set up in the basement nearest my oldest computer.
In the beginning, we had some issues. Most of them were line quality issues. They were usually fixed in pretty short order. But, it has been eight months and everything seems to run smoothly. The only problem we've had has been with occasional power outages, which are few and far between.
Note: in case of outage, have either a cell phone or neighbor's phone number in handy. Otherwise, it's a good alternative to the telcos.

After suffering thru more than a week of daily snf evening outages, we are making the switch to AT&T.
