I am 3.5 miles from the nearest Alltel tower and need an amp to get a better data signal. After two months of very slow download/uploads (average 42kb up/32kb down) I finally learned from customer service that Alltel no longer had a contract to roam on Sprint towers, which is why my service went downhill so fast. The modem I use, the Huawei EC228, is very durable and has worked just fine. I am now using a Cradlepoint router and all seems well on that end, too. A recent road trip from Michigan to Florida gave us great service all the way to Orlando and back, which was extremely handy to have. I hope when the Verizon merger is complete we 1) will have better speeds up and down, and 2) we won't be forced into a new contract with that pathetic 5G cap!
