Had this service for about a month now. Took seconds to install the modem and was up and running. Not as fast as Comcast but decent. Ping higher in gaming on some servers vs Comcast. Have two trouble tickets in the works and not one reply to either of them, both for the same issue. When checking email via Outlook, sometimes the email server rejects my login, sometimes it doesn't.

Overall i'm happy with the service. Like the ability to move the modem to another computer or household and still have service.

Update: Service has been degrading over time. I can no longer watch videos online as the speed is too slow. Did a speed check and i'm downloading at barely above 56k. Of course Clearwire gives me the reboot modem, clear cache, etc routine to no avail. Once my contract is up, no more Clearwire.

    be careful

I just found out today after being signed up with clearwire for over a year (paid the 25 dollars setup fee so I wouldn't get roped into a 2 year contract) that if you try and cancel after your year is up, if you end up adding or changing any services, clearwire will renew your 1 year and extend it from the date that you changed anything on your service plan.

At least that's what they told me today when I called to cancel service after dealing with the same issues you have for months w/o half of my support tickets getting answered. Obviously I'm really unhappy with this development if it's actually true. Be careful.

Be careful when shopping online for this service! There is a very sneaky company called "clearwireagent.com" selling Clearwire online. The "whois" registry information lists the owner as Susan Van Daveer in Redmond, WA. However you will NOT find that information ANYWHERE on that website. They totally mislead you into thinking your are buying directly from Clearwire. Even though you provide a social security number and credit card number, "Susan Van Daveer" never discloses her true identity, business address, or local phone number. Who knows what could happen? Customers don't know her. Customers don't know who her employees are. Customers don't know who sees their private information. And guess what, if something bad happens, she won't worry about culpablity. With no name or address to complain to, she's in the clear. This website is a cheap cut and paste knock off of the corporate site. Give an amateur access to Google adwords and a web design template and “POOF!”, they think they are instant dot com’ers.

In addition to their other problems, Clearwire really needs to crack down on this.

My experience has been very similar to folks here. The first month or so, the speeds were fine. Then I noticed the speed slowly degrade over time. After calling several times and validating my speeds were anywhere from 300mb down / 140mb up, I was told that unless it I get a speed of 130mp upload or less, they couldn't send a technician to help.

This was after hours of ridiculous customer service and diagnostics on their end (which included me doing a google search for 3rd party apps to clear my cache). Then they told me it was my firewall or antivirus - I worked 6 years at Microsoft and I promised them that the firewall was not the issue. I even pointed out that I travel with the same laptop to other locations and have no problems with speed. They still said there was nothing they could do to help other than the usual diagnostic reboots, etc. I was told I would have to pay my cancellation fee if I wanted out of the service.

So I went to their site to look at the service agreements and some things to note:

If your Internet Access Service was activated prior to March 1, 2007 and you terminate that Service for any reason or that Service is terminated by Clearwire for any violation by you of the Agreement prior to the end of the Initial Term or any Renewal Term, as applicable, you will be liable for an early termination fee of $180 or such other early termination fee as may be specified on your Order Form. If your Internet Access Service was activated on or after March 1, 2007 and you terminate that Service for any reason or that Service is terminated by Clearwire for any violation by you of the Agreement prior to the end of the Initial Term or any Renewal Term, as applicable, you will be liable for an early termination fee of $220

So I URGE anyone who feels they are receiving less than what they bargained for from ClearWire to write a complaint to the Washington Attorney General's office (as Clearwire headquarters is based out of WA).

    I just gotta ask.

Have you had your computer inspected for virus / spyware? Anything change in your use or where the modem is at?

    Re: I just gotta ask.

After a long history of having no problems with virus's. I signed up for Clearwire to replace bellsouth DSL. WORST MISTAKE EVER! Almost the minute I plugged in Clearwire, it got me online (at a much slower speed than I was used to) and within a few seconds I was bombarded with alerts from my virus blocker and within a few minutes my PC was beyond usable condition with lots virus's. I eventually had to reload windows. Clearwire explained that this could not have been their system, although there were about 10 unhappy people in line, most with connection problems, but one with the same problem as me. I even had someone approach me in the parking lot "hey are you going to sign up, let me transfer my contract to you"

My advice to anyone who is considering Clearwire- Take the time to go to one of their stores to inquire about signing up. I will be surprised if you can even get in the door due to all the people trying to dump their service and threatening lawsuits to try to get their money back.

    Not Surprised

    Re: I just gotta ask.

When I had problems with their service the Clearwire Tech told me it was my computer and instructed me to remove my anti-virus software from my computer. Guess I was right not to listen. I wonder how many others they've given the same advice. WOW!

    Clearwire service

It's not his computer. I've had Clearwire tell me to do several things to my computer. Guess what, the service (at best) is inconsistent, and yes, after not providing service to us for over a week now they threatened us with large fees to cancel also. I'd caution anyone to find other providers before siging up.

    Re: Clearwire service

I've read a lot of these reviews on various web sites. One thing that I've learned: Clearwire monitors many of these sites. In some cases they respond. In one instance they agreed to release a person from the cancellation fee, but (per his note on line) he had to agree to remove or edit his reviews and inputs to BLOGS. Want to get a real reaction? Send your stories to everyone in your address book. Ask them to forward it to everyone in theirs. Copy either the Clearwire on line support or media email address on their web site (media@clearwire.com) so they see what is happening. If you have a local radio or televison consumer advocant copy him/her also. Ask you friends to do the same. The message will go out exponentially. It shouldn't take long to get the policies changed.

    Happy Here....

I have had Clearwire for about 4 months now - consistent speeds, great customer service whenever I have called or submitted online tickets and no hiccups whatsoever at this point. Just wanted to show the other side of Clearwire that obviously exists for a lot of us.

You are showing BEST CASE SCENARIO at 2:20am. Send in a screen shot of your page UNABLE TO LOAD at 5:30pm due to a snail of an internet service provider.

    Re: Happy Here....

The test that I posted was not at 2:00 a.m. I'm not sure why the time shows that way - it was yesterday evening.

I NEVER get page UNABLE TO LOAD errors - so I have no understanding of what that is like with Clearwire.

People just need to understand that for every person that gets bad service - there is most likely at least one getting great service - a yin to your yang - that is me.

    You Will

Here is my latest test - ran just a second ago - 6:30 p.m. in Boise, ID MDT.

Probably one of the busier times of night - great connection here from Clearwire........

I'm on my third month of very consistent service from Clearwire here in Idaho.

I believe you, and I'm sure others have positive experiences or they'd be out of business. It's amazing, though, how similar people's experiences are. What is obvious to me from reading many of these is that this technology works in some place not in others. The most disturbing thing that I've learned is that in places where it does NOT work, and for people with repeated service problems Clearwire uses strong arm tactics to keep customers. They should simply acknowledge that it's not perfect and let people go. That would avoid a lot of the negative feedback and letters to the BBB etc. Just a note, when I turned in my modem after my bad service I met a couple who was doing the same. Here's a direct quote; "Clearwire tried many times to fix this, and admitted they couldn't. They can't force us to pay." BEWARE everyone.

    @spcsdns.net
Sure...no hiccups, then why have you had to submit ONLINE TICKETS! to try fix problems obviously. Im sure you got the same response as the rest of us- "sorry it does not work, however you did sign up and you are still under contract"

    Re: Happy Here....

No - that was a large assumption on your part. The only online ticket that I have submitted as part of my Clearwire service was asking them if they recommended a certain brand or type of wireless broadband routers. They answered that question very promptly and I was please with the response.

Sorry - my tickets were nothing negative.

I, too, am in Boise and Clearwire works great. At least in the Treasure Valley there seems to be many happy CW customers.

    Its Bull

    @spcsdns.net

I would be surprised if there is one Clearwire user that is "Happy Here" with their service in Jacksonville FL. I Just stopped by my local cell phone store that is a rep for Clearwire, they have their kiosk unplugged and said "We refuse to sell or represent a piece of junk service provider" They also said almost all of their CW sales have returned for a refund unhappy and Clearwire wont do anything about it.

clearwire is not a service provider...they are thieves!

beware! clearwire gets your money and don't care if the service works, they keep your money anyway... their technical support department tried for 2 weeks to get a signal and never could get it to work properly. when i called to cancel my service i was told the box had to be returned within 7 days for a refund. they are keeping $180.00 of my money!

Re: clearwire is not a service provider...they are thieves!

I had the same problem. You can get your money back, but it'll take some work. I learned from reading web sites like this that Clearwire fears publicity. Here's what I suggest. Do this all professionally. First write a letter to the Clearwire CEO. His name and a fax number for their HQ is on their web site. Explain the problem in detail. Then file a complaint with a copy of the letter to the Jax Better Business Bureau. Send a copy of everything to the consumer advocate at your local TV station. In Jax there is one at most stations. One is Ken Amaro. The email address for the TV consumer advocates are on the station web sites. Finally send copies of everything to Clearwire. If it doesn't work, take a video of your download speed and post it and the letters on YouTube, and send the link to Clearwire. Also post the link here.

We have had a friend or two in Skagit County that tried the Clearwire thing, but with continual slow speeds and customer support that was not there the tried to cancle service and it was very difficult. I think one went to the other wireless company www.startouch.com and they got them online with a fairly fast connection and now they are happy. Please make sure you looki at the amount of your contract with Clearwire, as it is hard to get out of it.
