Clearwire is [Cool By Me].
I've had DSL and Cable, in many different locations.
Nice speeds in one location for Cable, and bad speed in one location for DSL.
Breakdown (a bit): Cable (Comcast) always charge me more than what I was actually seeing, in tests. At the one location I mentioned, I was paying $70 a month for 8 mb downstream, and tested at 1.2 to 1.5 down. Never ever seen atleast over 4 mb down, in a test. In the good locations, I paid about the same for 6 mb downstream, and tested at about 3 to 4 mb down.
**My experience; Money wasted.
**BTW I also, gave up Cable (Comcast) for Satellite TV (Dish Network) in a heart-beat, for quality reasons also. I can't ever see going back.
DSL (Earthlink) one time only, I did a trial pay of $64 a month for 1.5 mb downstream, and tested, for 200 to 1.4 mb down. Note: my average speed was about 600+ mb down. 1.4 and 1.2 happened on very rare occasions, plus I kept getting connection drops like every 3 minutes. I was 16,000 out. Too far out. So I understood.
DSL (Qwest) I paid $69 a month for 8 mb downstream, and tested at 6 to 8 mb down. It was SWEET. Got my money's worth.
Back a few years earlier I had bellsouth DSL, with new fiber optic line back then. At that time Cable's top speed that we could get was 1.5 mb downstream. DSL fiber-optics gave DSL a big boost, to match it, and I tested at 1.2 to 1.5 mb down.
DSL is the best overall in my opinion.
Now back to Clearwire. As I have stated, if I can help it I won't be going Cable ever again. So until I can get DSL again, Wireless is great.
I pay about $40+ for 1.5 mb downstream with Clearwire, and tests range from a low 200+ to a high 2000+ mb down.
200+ and 2000+ happen very rarely. But, I get 1.4+ to 1.6+ mb down. I test in 1.5+ and 1.6+ mb down constantly. Virtually every time. So, in my situation, I get more than what I pay for.
