I chose the 768k download/256k package for 12 months. Getting the service activated required plugging in the receiver and the ethernet port to my wireless router. One thing that sold me to the service is that the representative mentioned that sometime in fall 2007 a wireless card can be purchased for my laptop. This will allow my laptop to connect straight to the Clearwire network without the need for a modem.
Other than the selling point, I found the service to only be adequate for light web surfing and checking e-mail. As soon as I go into a flash heavy site, it takes sometimes longer than 56k to load. For those wanting to use torrents will find that the port for p2p or bit torrent has been blocked. In fact, it's true what other reviewers here wrote. If Clearwire notices heavy uploading/downloading, they will down throttle your connection, basically defeating the purpose of BROADBAND internet. This also applies to playing online games as my ping constantly skyrockets during play.
The only thing Clearwire is useful for is checking e-mail and light web surfing, and that is something all ISPs (even 56k) can do well. If I read most of the reviews here before looking for a new ISP, I would not even consider getting Clearwire. It fails as a broadband service and it barely does anything better than a 56k service.
