I got the 4G Clear usb dongles on a $55/month plan (no contract). The only difference between contract and pay-per-month is that they'll wave the $35 signup fee if you sign up for two years -- not worth giving up my freedom for.
So far, speeds have been as advertised, the setup was smooth, everything works as advertised. Haven't tried the fringes of the footprint yet, will report on that later. The dongle is too big, it really sticks way out. I'll solve that by using a USB extension cable, so I can hide the dongle behind my PC. Other than that, nothing bad to report. Pings are 100, speeds are 6 to 7 Mbits down and .5 Mbit up.
I had read the avalanche of bad reviews on Clear, but decided to take a chance anyway since they were about Clear's non-4G network.
