Allwest bought out Windjammer Communications here in Evanston, and the migration was pretty painful. Allwest already had fiber laid in 1/2 the city, and in buying up the cable plant portion, they are now the only option besides DSL for "high speed" internet. We had a solid 3 weeks of intermittent to no connection at all, and then random outages as they changed equipment in the head-end (including a 24 hour outage for half the city). To compensate, they did up me to the 20MB package for free for 3 months (had the 10MB prior). Now that they have the kinks worked out, the service is pretty solid. The local office staff are awesome, and on top of things; it's getting through to them directly that is the tricky part. All in all, it's a premium service at a premium price but I can't go any other way without a serious reduction in speeds so for the money, it's a pretty good option. member for 20.9 years, 2233 visits, last login: 2.7 years ago lodged 11.2 years ago |
