Was comcast internet/cable customer for many years. Since moving to Alpharetta in 2005 I have averaged 1-2 major outages a month. Started working from home in early 2007, and the internet outages were killing me. Bought an HDTV and was appalled at Comcasts costs for all the bells and whistles (DVR, HD, etc.) Equivalent Comcast cost for the services I am getting today would easily be $130/mo+. Uverse is $99/mo and I had the HD fee waived for one year ($10/mo off).
Ordered U200 and Pro internet (3000/1000) from Uverse. Yes the comcast internet was faster downstream (8000/768 advertised, but more with "powerboost") but for basic email/web/voip that I use from home, the Uverse Pro is great. Ordering was easy, the install was fine except they didn't coordinate it very well (uverse techs came out first, then needed the phone guys out to upgrade my NID, then had to come back after that work was done). Only other issue I had was with the DVR unit. For some reason the firmware currently has issues with HDMI, so I had to hook it up with component. Not a deal breaker by any means and certainly something I imagine will be fixed with a simple firmware upgrade in the near future. However, my experience with customer service was awful. Called the 800 number and could not get anyone that knew anything about Uverse. Finally got transferred directly to level 2 techs.
Menu, video on demand, and DVR are all very intuitive. Like the ability to add/remove DVR selections from an internet web interface, so if I'm traveling I can instruct my DVR at home to record a show.
Only been with ATT for a few days, so while there certainly could be something to change my favorable opinion, right now I am just loving being comcast free. Dropping off my modem and cable box at the comcast store today felt awesome. I recommend to anyone looking for a cable alternative to try Uverse.
