  • "Reliable, good speed teirs at 12/18/24 mbps, very reasonable price, RG allows use of own router."
  • "High first-hop ping around 25ms, new bandwidth caps make U-Verse irrelevant against DOCSIS 3.0."
  • "Very good speed at a very good price, but the new caps make Cable DOCSIS 3.0 the clear choice."

Got the 12mbps internet plan since it seemed like the best deal, being only $5 more for double the speed of 6mbps. Was tempting to try the 24/3 plan if available in my area, but is $20 more a month. Service is very reliable, as I'm only 1300 or so feet from the fiber node.

Originally had ISDN, so making the switch was a no-brainer for the internet. The TV service is also good, and the multi-room DVR is a very nice feature. The HD looks good, and the fast channel switching and guide preview are also nice.

The install took about 5 hours or so, but went pretty smoothly. Still using the RG provided as the main router, considering using my own router, but the one I have only supports up to 10mbits for the WAN port.

12/14/2010 Update: Service has been excellent so far, never have had a single drop in connection uptime, nor has the speed ever changed from 11.54mbit/sec. Still a good price for the internet too. My only complaint is that the upload is a little slow at 1.5mbits compared to the download at 12mbits. 24mbit plan is available but I mainly only want more upload, and 20 bucks more for 3mbit upload isn't worth it to me.

3/24/2011 Update: New bandwidth caps pretty much make U-Verse irrelevant in the broadband era of today, specially against DOCSIS 3.0 cable systems. U-Verse will have higher pings, slower speed tiers, same bandwidth cap, etc. against DOCSIS 3.0. So if you have DOCSIS 3.0 in your area, get that instead.

uverse is the worst

I used to have direct tv and it was the best,
I suppose if you never had other hd services you wouldn't know any better.
it is completely unreliable, breaks down constantly and even when its working the picture isn't that great.

I would switch back but it would cost me thousands to get my same equipment back and hooked up again.

if you have direct tv and your thinking about uverse DONT!!!

Re: uverse is the worst

I was mainly referring to the internet portion. The HD quality on U-Verse definitely isn't the best, but that's about the only issue I've had, it's totally reliable on my line. I've seen better HD yes, in fact some youtube HD broadcasts have the same or better, comparing them on the same monitor even. But it doesn't bother me too much, I spend more time on the internet than anything else.

Adios AT&T

U-verse has been nothing but disappointments for me. First I had to learn that there was (when I had the TV) a 2 HD limit. Second I had to learn that watching TV slowed down my Internet. Third I found out the HD was terrible. Fourth I found out there was 1 DVR limit that is tiny and slow. So, I switched back to DISH Network and kept U-verse Internet.

Even then the Internet portion was far from perfect, with the higher pings, but the one edge it had over cable was no caps. Now that U-verse's caps are worse than Charter cable, I have ordered me an SB6120 and I will be switching to Charter as soon as I receive the modem.

On top of all that, my AT&T POTS (telephone) has had static for years which AT&T refuses to fix. I even had to replace my own inside wiring when I pay $7.50 for "inside wire protection."

So for me, it's ADIOS AT&T! Good riddance!
