$45 per month- (6 month contract)
about 10 days "I was setup at a new house in a short amount of time" "I left because the billing and the lack of u-verse as an option at my location" "I switched to Sonic.net (ADSL2+) and even though U-verse is available with faster speeds I don't think I'll switch back."

I had AT&T U-verse for ADSL2+ for a little over a year or so and the service was setup at a location for my new house back in April 2010 with relatively little hassle but with NO real U-Verse VDSL available with 6Mb or higher speeds.
~6months or so ago (switched to Sonic.net):
So I previously had ADSL2+ through AT&T on U-verse but found it to be poor speeds w/o much other benefits. I switched over to Sonic.net since I couldn't get U-verse at the time anyways and they throw in an extra phone line that can make long distance calls for free for basically the same price I was already paying.
When I cancelled my AT&T U-verse account, they cancelled my account without turning off the auto-billing that I had setup in my account and there was no way for me to turn that off myself since the account had already been disabled. I called in to have them stop the auto-billing but they continued to bill me incorrectly the next month.
NOW (tried to switch back to U-verse):
U-verse became available at my location about a month or so ago. I decided I'd switch back over and get faster speeds. However, I'm being told that since I have DSL at my current address that is not with AT&T that I can't get U-verse unless I wait 5-10 business days without ANY service

Our records indicate that existing services are already working at the service address you provided. You'll need to confirm whether the new services that you've ordered will replace existing services at this address, or will be separate services installed at the same location (e.g. roommate.) If the services are to be removed it'll be necessary for the owner (responsible party) to call his or her current service provider. If the service provider is AT&T, call 1-800-288-2020 and request to disconnect the services. Unfortunately, your order cannot be processed until the disconnect order is received and verified. Once you've been notified by either the owner or landlord that the services have been scheduled for removal, please contact us so that your order may be processed.
Please give us a call at 1-877-331-0446 (Mon-Fri 8 am to 10 pm, or Sat-Sun 8 am to 5 pm Eastern Time) to provide the necessary information we need to complete your online order.
To prevent an automatic cancellation of your order, it's important we hear from you within 10 days.
We look forward to hearing from you and to completing your order.
Thank you for choosing AT&T.

So I was told by one person a possible option would be to switch back to AT&T DSL to minimize that downtime but then told my another person that AT&T DSL is no longer offered at my location since U-verse became available.
I called back in today and asked what would someone do if I have a roommate (which I do) where I can't have services unavailable for almost 2 weeks and looked that up online where people said you could do a UNIT A and UNIT B thing for the system. I mentioned that to the AT&T person on the phone and he told me he couldn't do that for anything that wasn't a real apartment building. I said I'd be willing to even cancel for and not have any internet service for a week if I could get a call or figure out when my order would happen shortly after that and was told "you were told previously that we cannot make ANY outbound calls" so you will have to call back in and ask when service have been completely disconnected and out of our system before you can schedule the date for a U-verse install. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me, HE WAS THE SUPERVISOR on the floor.
It appears from everything I can tell that there is NO WAY to switch back to AT&T from another ADSL provider to order U-verse without 2 weeks+ of not having any internet services at your location whatsoever. I was an AT&T customer before on ADSL2+ and it seems like the ironic thing is the switch would have been only less than a day or two if I had stayed on as an AT&T customer. Oh and after I called to ask more questions, even though the email said my order would be cancelled after 10 days, it was instead cancelled immediately after the phone call - which is fine by me at this point.
Monopoly? Bad accounting? poor customer service? all of the above? Yes.
