Seemless transfer of service. Transfer modem. Fast speed. Courtesy calls. Competitive price.
None so far.
Off to a good Start!

I was with Teksavvy cable internet (30/10 Mbps). I called Start at the end of May to begin the process of how to transfer my service seemlessly from Teksavvy to Start. Customer service reps were great and patient with all my concerns. They warned me that due to the nature of Cogeco or other cable networks, I may be out of internet for up to 2 weeks upon my transfer. In order to transfer seemlessly, I would be best advised to contact Teksavvy a few days in advance of my cancellation date to ensure timely disconnection.

I called Teksavvy to cancel my service with a cancellation date of June 23, 2014, the last day paid for in my billing cycle. I then completed the form on Start's website with my cancellation date. I provided all my details including necessary information regarding my compatible Technicolor/Thomson DCM476 (STAC.02.50) modem, which I would be bringing over for the new service. I signed up for the Advanced Cable package (50/10 Mbps, 300 GB, $75). Surprisingly I got a courtesy call within hours confirming my details. Good stuff. At the start of the month I was billed for the days of June 24th - 30th, as this is essentially a prepaid service. All is well.

I called Teksavvy on June 18, 2014 to confirm my cancellation was on schedule. This tactic ensured they submit a ticket to Cogeco in a timely manner for the disconnection to take place. They advised everything was good to go. First time I got a straight answer from Teksavvy. I guess they had no reason to lie or give me incorrect info considering I'm leaving them.

June 23, 2014 came around. I got a courtesy call from Start asking if we noticed a change in internet, if not, then the disconnect and handoff would most likely occur over night after midnight. They were right. Next morning I woke up around 6:00 am to find my modem lights all active. Turned on my iPhone, iPad and Macbook (fanboy!) to see if there was a difference in speed. There was. Who knew 20 Mbps could make such a difference! I was most happy to know that I didn't have to wait 2 weeks or even a day to have the transfer completed. My wife was pleased.

A full day has passed since my service began with Start. Everything has been perfect. Speed has been increased. Using certain speed tests, I have found that the speed advertised was what I was getting (50/10 Mbps). No problems with Netflix, Youtube, Xbox 360, web browsing, downloads or iPhone apps. Super snappy even during peak hours. With Teksavvy, I found during peak hours it would get really sluggish, especially for sites like YouTube. Netflix streams reach the highest quality within 1-2 seconds without slipping back. I don't understand how there can be such a stark difference considering the cable connections run through Cogeco, right? Regardless, very happy with the new service on the first day. Getting the same feeling as when you get a new phone or laptop. For those of you interested, I am running all my devices through gigabit ethernet wired or 5 GHz 802.11n wifi connection where applicable.

TL;DR - Transfer from Teksavvy was seemless and happened overnight. No waiting. Courtesy calls to ensure I was happy. Fast speeds even during peak hours. Very happy.

Question

When you transferred from Teksavvy to Start, were you using DSL or Cable internet?

Re: Question

Cable (30/10 package). I was able to port over my current modem as well, which I had purchased unlocked and outright from Teksavvy.
