Verizon has launched the first national 4G LTE network in the United States and they are doing a spectacular job. The speeds and coverage do not compare to other wireless broadband providers. Before I was a Verizon subscriber I paid for WIMAX service through Clear. The speeds are abut 2-3 times faster and the latency is always lower. On average I see 22 mbps when they call for 10-12 mbps. I am currently writing this review from Las Vegas where the International Consumer Electronics Show just occurred. During the show where there were thousands of devices connected to the Verizon 4G network I was seeing amazing service quality. In the convention center it self I ran a spped test and got 35 mbps to a San Jose server. As far as upload goes I generally see 4-6 mbps with peaks around 7 mbps. I am currently using the LG VL600 modem because all the Verizon people I have talked to have recommended it. I was told it gets better network speeds while connected to the Verizon 3G EVDO network. It also seemed to be more sturdy than the Pantech Alternative. I have two complaints, first the software that Verizon distributes sucks. It is provided by a third party vendor by the name Smith Micro. While talking to some people at Verzion at CES I was told this should improve shortly. My second complaint is the pricing. Fifty dollars for five gigabytes is a rip off. The cap should be around 30 -40 gigabytes in my opinion. Overall Verizon has a killer app here! Good Job!
