Well,
After a little over three weeks, today I pulled the plug. It even took them 35 minutes just to discontinue my DSL, Internet services and Analog line. I'm sure you will find my previous comments here regarding PACHELL's support and service, so a warning for all. If you are having GREAT service with PACHELL, God bless you! Just pray you don't have trouble or require additional services.
As I explained before, on March 30th, PACHELL installed my enhanced service. I was provided 8 static IP's. This was proven suitable for my type of needs, (1) Windows 2000 Service, running exchange server, IIS web services. (3) Windows 98 clients for my family workstations. (1 )Laptop running Windows 2000 Workstation. I also had Nortel's VPN software to tunnel into my corporate office (Windows 98 client, running Office 2000 with Outlook).
Had my HP hub installed and cat 5 cable running though the whole house. Installed BlackIce on my client 98 machine and my Windows 2000 Server. Everything, like I said, ran fine until 8:30 PM each night. The Alcatel modem would loose sync and I would receive a line error. This would continue until around 12:30 AM (4 hours later).
I've left email two times, remained on the phone for hours trying to get service. The first time the engineer arrived two weeks ago, he swapped out my Alcatel modem with a Westell WireSpeed. Additionally, he found a filter on the line, on the side of my house and removed it.
It worked fine until (you guess it) 8:30 P.M. I logged another call and waited a little over an hour for a support person to answer the phone. I explained my problems and he examine the line and told me it was noisy. Wow like I didn't know that. Anyway, while talking with him, he accidently disconnected me.
I called 611 and they could'nt help me, but noticed a call logged for service. They explained that the engineer would be out to my house that coming Saturday (this past week-end). He never showed up. I filed a report with the PUC and they responded by submitting my complaint to the executives at PACHELL.
Never heard from them! At this point I realize that this type of business is bigger then I and require some serious thought and planning. There is a song by the Rolling Stones that keeps me sane in this business; "You can't always get what you want". I do believe this, being in the business for over twenty-five years now and seeing practically everything imageable done to the consumer, I wondered why I was going though this.
So now it's done. I'm a happy camper and was informed that I don't have to pay for the phone line, DSL or the internet service that I never was able to use consistently. Now if only I can find a reliable source with the same services. But I don't think I'll be able to.
My evaluration of the services (DSL as a whole), it's not worth the trouble. This is just my opinion! Others, like I said should count their blessings. Just too many cooks in the kitchen at this point, shooting from the hip and lies from the lip. Just keep this in mind, "Don't let the smooth taste fool you!
Respectively submitted,
Jerry Kirkpatrick
