04/3/2009 ---
This is my first review of PhonePower. I've had an account for one year at this point. Here's my take on each of the rated categories:
1) Easy to negotiate website --- with all the feature I've come to depend on in my experience with numerous other VoIP providers.
2) Took the Grandstream adapter out of the box, plugged it in behind my LinkSys WRT54G router, watched while it auto-registered, and started making calls.
3) Good audio quality on both sides of the conversation.
4) I have experienced no downtime or difficulties whatsoever, thus far.
5) I did contact support on-line early on with questions relating to how certain features functioned ... I have had no problems or issues that needed resolution. My questions were fully answered within a day. [I am one who believes that an on-line email or trouble ticket system allows the support reps to consider the issue, ask higher ups for help (if necessary), and then compose a timely, reasonable and accurate response --- rather than speaking with a telephone rep who is programmed to say: "Unplug everything".. "Reboot" .. "It's your ISP!" .. "You're hard of hearing." ]
6) As I've said in other posts --- Value for the money is in the "pocketbook of the beholder", dependent on one's personal needs and uses for VoIP. PP suits my usage pattern rather nicely.
I like the option of selecting a phone number from an on-line listing by state, area code, rate center. I got lucky, finding a xxx-x000 number in my home town exchange. And I'm comfortable with the PP-provided and provisioned adapter. My early penchant for BYOD PAP2T experimentation with various providers has been replaced, for the most part, with a "set-it-and-forget-it" mentality. [Although I still have a few BYOD providers registered on a bunch of adapters at different locations.]
Meanwhile, I'm impressed with the track record of the two principals who started PP ... they previously had founded DSL Extreme, a major ISP that they later sold ... moving on to other projects. One of these guys actively posts in the BBR Forums as PhonePower.
If you check the reviewed entities shown under my avatar, you will see four VoIP providers. I have severed my service with one of them. The other three providers have all been given 100% across the board ratings in my reviews. It is difficult to select a favorite from these three. Each has various points that suit my varying needs.
