As a web developer, I needed something faster that the 1.5 Mbps that AT&T's U-Verse was giving me.

I saw the installers from my cable company telling me they serviced my apartment complex since it was first built. I contacted the company on the 17 of January and installation was done on the 20th...

Since then, I have gone through 2 of the ARRIS cable modems with built in 4 port wireless routers. In both cases, the router portion of the cable modem stopped working. In fact, the service would be up for a day or so, then suddenly restart the cable modem repeatedly at shorter and shorter intervals. It would then stop seeing the outside world, and everything attached to the router could not see itself.

I was told I was losing service due to transition to a new ISP... due to my cable modem's cmac address not entered into the system. My account was cancelled at one point without my knowledge.

In order to at least see the printers in the house as well as our in-home media server, I opted for the third cable modem to be just that, and used my own wireless router. This was done 22 February. On the night of February 24, we started experiencing loss in service. By 2:00 AM the 25th, no connectivity.

I asked if a cable modem I had from when I lived in Florida was compatible, and if so, could I use it. I was told it was indeed compatible, gave them the CMAC address, and was told I would get a call back in 30 minutes. 50 minutes later, I had to call them. I then had to re-give them the address and wait on the phone while they attempted to turn the service on.

Odd, on their end, each time, they could see the modem was up and connected perfectly. From inside, however, both my router AND any computer plugged directly into the modem were reporting they were unable to obtain an IP address.

They don't have technicians around after 5 or on weekends, I work 70 miles away from home, so I have to lose yet another day of income while I wait at home for their technicians to fix this problem... or in this case, swap the ARRIS modem out with something else. 3 ARRIS devices failing is 2 too many for my tastes.
