I had been a Bell Atlantic ISDN customer for 4 years when I added DSL (their 1.5/384 middle-tier package)in December. Few other ISPs offer that speed here (a few miles W of Newark), and none at a much better price. I share the PPPoE connection with two other PCs via AllAboard on the LAN. I've seen a lot of bitching about PPPoE, but little solid evidence that static/DHCP would be significantly faster or more stable (as opposed to more elegant).
I handled the installation; I'd had few but fairly good experiences with tech support on ISDN, and the same has been true for DSL. Speed is good, reaching 1.3Mbps down often enough that when things are slow I tend to suspect net congestion rather than local hops or servers. AFAIK, there's been one 18-hour service outage in four months.
So while I'd like to see other ISPs or (ha!) Cablevision apply more competitive pressure to bring BA's rates down, I'm quite happy with their performance to date.
